William Pace [son]

.John Smith Admr. of Wm Pace,   dec’d., with Edward Herndon, Sec. Spots Co.Records p.60 Vol. 1

In his will John Pace writes:

Imps: I give to my daughter Mary Pace, on her day of marriage the new narrow strip feather bed with blankets and a rug with curtanes and valances belonging.

Imps: Further I give to my daughter Mary Pace one table and six new leather chairs to be present at the day my wife should marry or otherwise at her death.

Mary would have been 16 years of age when her father died. One can assume that she lived with her brother Joseph until her marriage in 1731. She would have been 27 years old then which is quite ancient for a first marriage at that place and time. She may have been married before, and married out of the Church of England, whichcould account for her son ,William (1729), being listed as illegitimate, when he was baptized in 1729. If the marriage were out side of the church his birth date would not be listed, especially if baptized at a later date.

Mary Pace Truman died in 1742, and William her son is a witness to a Mortgage in Spotsylvania County in 1754, his step father sells him 100 acres in same county in 1758.

It appears that William and his step father left Middlesex County after 1742 but before 1754. I believe that his step- father remarried and raised a family in Spotsvvania County. Virginia.

01-March 1702/3 Lancaster County {recorded in Middlesex County} Court Order Book p.505. William Churchill Gent. In action of case against James Smith defendt it being ordered that John Pace and John Finney should inspect, view and value the mill appurtances.

Viewed February ye 25th. 1703, swore work done worth 45 lbs,.-dismissed with costs &c.

01-Dec.1707 John Pace [father] Chosen for Grand Jury duty. Midd.Co.Va. Court Orders p.158

Mary Pace was probably born in Middlesex County Virginia, we do have a record of her baptism in Christ Church in 1704. The register lists her as Mary Pearce but in review there was no other connection to parents John and Elizabeth other than Pace. She is listed in her fathers will and her bapt. date fits the family line up. She is listed as Mary Pace as the mother of William and also as Mary Pace when she married. She most probably died in Middlesex County in 1726 for only a single Mary Tureman is listed in Christ Church Register.. twice as the parent of her sons Charles and John Tureman. and at her death. It appears that her son William moved with his step father to Spotsvania County after her death in 1726, but before 1745 when William was a witness to a Mortgage in 1745 in Spotsvania, County. Virginia. We then can determine that he resided in that county from county records that display the fact that his step-father sold him 100 acres of land in 1758. William must have died shortly before April 1761 for court records, record that a John Smith was appointed Administrator of his estate . We have not found any records that prove that William married and raised a family. He was 42 years old when he died and lived long enough to have raised a family. Deeper research in Spotsvania County may turn up new clues as to his activities while there and that data is important to families of this line. It is almost certain that his step-father Ignatius Tureman remarried , early indications are that his new wife was Eleanor and that he had several children from this marriage But like William additional research is needed before the full story unfolds. It does appear that Ignatius Tureman was the son of Robert and Mary Rice Tureman. That Ignatius and Eleanor had at leaste 2 daughters born in Culpepper County Virginia. This is yet to be proven. Respectively submitted: D.E. Jack Pace
