My line is from Missouri. My grandfather, Milton William Koch, was born in Covina,
Calif., his sister Vera Koch Thomas is the one who wrote the letter you
posted. I believe I have a copy of the entire letter somewhere in all "my
stuff." The letter was written to Jessie Wade, she lives in Texas. Her
grandmother was Jessie Ahart Bouton. My g grandmother was Bessie Lee Ahart Koch, she had a twin sister named Jessie Ahart Bouton. Their mother's name
was Anna Verona Oxford. She was married to Milton Prince Ahart. Anna or
Annie as she was called was born in Cainsville, Harrison Co., Missouri. She married Milton in Gallatin, Missouri 26 Sept 1880. Annie's father was Russell George Oxford, he was born in Buncombe Co., N. Carolina 5 Sept 1817.
He married Leanna Eleanor Wilson 25 Nov 1835 in Clay Co., Kentucky.
Russell was buried in the Brown Cemetery in Gallatin, Missouri. Russell's
parents were Jacob B. Oxford and Elizabeth Burleson Rogers. They both died in Grundy Co., Missouri.
The story about Oxford University is what my grandfather, Milton Koch, used to talk about too. He was the youngest in the family. He had 3 sisters,
all who were born in Missouri. The one remaining sister lives in Yuma,
Arizona by my grandmother Evelyn Maynard Koch. I am trying to get more info
from her about the family before it's too late.
I forgot to write a couple things. Russell George Oxford's wife Leanna Eleanor Wilson moved to live with her daughter Annie in Princeville, Illinois, probably sometime after Russell died, 28 Sept 1877. She supposedly fell out of a second story window and died 18 Nov 1907 in Princeville. There is no headstone for her in the cemetery in Princeville.
My sister and I went back there last summer and met some cousins we didn't even know exsisted. It was so fun meeting them. They didn't know too much about her death until they happened to find her obituary in the newspaper.
I don't have any info of the intermarrying of the Oxfords in Missouri.
