Martha Elizabeth GEGG1 (known as 'Mat(tie)'), daughter of James Albert GEGG (1850-1915) and Elizabeth TICKNER (1852-1929), was born on 31 March 1878 at the BDM District in Windellama, NSW.2 She was mentioned in a newspaper report on 17 April 1896 in Windellama Goulburn Herald : Report on the Coroner's investigation into the suicide of James Arthur SIDEBOTTOM who shot himself at the GEGG property after being rejected by Martha. The Coroner found that the deceased died from a gunshot wound self inflicted.3 She married William Thomas LATHAM on 5 February 1902 in Windellama. On 7 May 1909 her interests included playing tennis. Text From Source: "I am sorry to tell you that Auntie Sarah Hockey passed away on friday night and the funeral was leaving Goulburn at 1.30 for the C of E Cemetery at Windellama. Dorothy & Clyde happened to be here when I got the news, so they took me to Primbee to see Mat"
John Owen remembers when he was about 10, he and a lot of other children including his sister Denise were taken to a house in Primbee and then all the adults left to go to a funeral. Possibly this was Sarah's funeral although the distances to travel suggest it was for someone else as we arrived at about 9.00 in the morning and the adults were back at about 2 or 3 o'clock in the afternoon. John says that this was the first time he recalls hearing the name Tickner and had always wondered whose house he had been at and whose funeral it was. This letter has resolved the house question but whose funeral it was is still unknown.
