William MAY (1784?- )

William MAY,1 son of John MAY (bap.1747, d.1829) and Elisabeth ANDREW (bap.1747, d.1835), was born in 1784 (approx.) in Tregony, Cornwall.2 He was christened on 2 January 1784 in Cuby with Tregony, Cornwall.3 He was christened on 2 January 1786 in Tregony.3 He married Jane BURLEY on 2 October 1806 in Cuby with Tregony.1,3,4 In 1810 he was a shoemaker in Cuby with Tregony.3,5

William and Jane had 7 children :

- William MAY (b.1807 Cuby-with-Tregony Cornwall; bap. 27 Dec 1807 Cuby-with_Tregony Cornwall; d. c.1870 St Austell Cornwall). He married Mary REYNOLDS (1801 - 1854) 9 Mar 1833 Cuby-with-Tregony Cornwall. He also married Elizabeth HUGH (1821 - ) 1859 St Austell Cornwall. He was an agricultural and farm labourer.

- John MAY (b. 5 Nov Tregony Cornwall; d.1885 Truro Cornwall). He was an agricultural and gardener's labourer.

- Michael Burley MAY (b.1811 Cuby-with-Tregony Cornwall). He married Charlotte MOORE (1814 - ) 22 Nov 1836 Mevagissey Cornwall. He was a blacksmith

- Catherine MAY (b.1813 Cuby-with-Tregony Cornwall). She married Thomas RICKARD (1813 - bef.1871) 12 Feb 1842 Cuby-with-Tregony Cornwall. She was an agriculturall labourer and a laundress.

- Charles MAY (b.1815 Cuby-with-Tregony Cornwall; d. bef1891). He married Mary Ann MICHAEL (1813 - ) 22 Dec 1838 Cuby-with-Tregony Cornwall. He was an engine fitter, foundry worker and blacksmith.

- Joseph MAY (b. 27 Sep 1817). He married Ann DOURICK (1824 - ) 28 Jun 1845 Cuby-with-Tregony Cornwall. He was an agricultural and farm labourer.

- Richard MAY (b.1822 Tregony Cornwall; bap. 30 Sep 1822Cuby-with-Tregony Cornwall). He was an agricultural labourer.3,6

William died "Date Unknown" .

 

Jane BURLEY7 was the daughter of Charles BURLEY (1743-1826) and Catherine PERRYMAN (1745-1815).

Census (1871): Catherine is now a widow living with her son William
Census (1881): Moved to Devon with son William and his family
Occupation (1881): I think that it's here that the laundress, they made a pig's ear of the form so it's difficult to be certain
Census (1891): Very poor copy, can't read any of it
(4) Charles May
General: Charles May's grandparents on his father's side were John May and Elizabeth Andrew. His wife Mary Anne Michael's grandparents on her mother's side were John May and Elizabeth Andrew. This makes them first cousins. Ooops."
