William John NEWTON (1856-1932)

William John NEWTON,1 son of Samuel NEWTON (1819?-1895) and Elizabeth BERRYMAN (1827-1912), was born in 1856 in Creswick, Vic.1,2

he died (aged 76) on 29 July 1932 in Bendigo, Victoria. The cause was a long unknown illness.1,2 He was buried in 1932 in the Methodist section of the general cemetery in Bendigo.3

 

"Family stories tell that he lost the lower part of one leg as a result of being gored by a bull. He walked with the aid of a peg leg and worked as a blacksmith in Moama." (Quote from the Berryman book).1

His niece, a Mrs Spalding, was buried in the same plot in 1962
