Francis Charles OWEN (1906-1967)

Francis Charles OWEN¹ (known as 'Frank'), son of John OWEN (1879-1970) and Rachel Elizabeth BURLEY (1883-1963), was born on 12 November 1906 in Silverspur, Qld.^2,3 He was a factory worker . He was a leading hand with Austral Bronze during World War II. While he was not allowed to enlist, he actually did so three times but was stopped from embarking each time. It is believed that he received a number of white feathers during the war due to the ignorance of his situation by the senders. (White feathers were sent, usually annonymously, to people as a means of saying they were a coward). His daughter Margarette advises that he spent the rest of his working life with Austral Bronze.¹

Frank married Jean Margaret COLLIS in 1939 at the BDM District in Hurstville, NSW.⁴

between 1939 and 1968 they lived at 63 St Georges Pde in Hurstville. Frank and Jean were there for most of their married life. They did live at at least one other residence in Hurstville before acquiring this house but that location is not known.¹

he died (aged 61) on 17 November 1967 at St George District Hospital in Kogarah, NSW. He died at the hospital the day after admission.^1,5 He was buried in November 1967 in Sect 3B, Plot 495 in Woronora cemetery in Sutherland, NSW.^1,6
