Margaret JONES (1840-1867)

Margaret JONES,1 daughter of John JONES ( - ), was born in 1840 in Ystalyfera, Glamorganshire in Wales.2,3 She married Thomas OWEN on 16 October 1859 in Swansea, Glamorganshire. The witnesses were Trevor Williams and Mary Thomas.4

on 9 August 1860 they lived at Cornish Row in Michaelson Lower, Neath District in Glamorgan County in Wales. This was when their daughter Ann was born but by 1861 they had moved to 6 David's Row, Michaelson Lower.2,3,5

she migrated from Plymouth, Devonshire to Adelaide, South Australia arriving on 4 August 1864. She travelled to Australia with her husband and family aboard the ship "Tarquin" which left Plymouth on 17 Dec 1864.6,7

from 1865 she and Thomas OWEN lived in Burra Burra, South Australia. They were initially there after emigrating to Australia but while Thomas had been brought out to work at the Burra Burra mine, they must have moved to Wallaroo which also had a mine.3,8

she died (aged 27) on 13 January 1867 at her home in Wallaroo, South Australia. The cause was Puerperal Convulsions (now known as Septicaemia). Given her son John was born on the same day, she probably died in childbirth.3,9

Thomas OWEN3,10 was the son of David OWEN (1801?- ) and Ann DAVIES (1806?-1861). He and Margaret JONES had the following children:

Ann OWEN (1860- )
