Edward TICKNER,1 son of Peter TICKNER (bef1815-1854) and Mary Ann CARPENTER (1818-1897), was born on 10 January 1837 in East Guldeford, Sussex.2 He was a farmer . (Possibly he should more correctly be referred to as a sheep grazier).1 He was placed into bankruptcy in 1837 .3 He was mentioned in a newspaper report on 8 November 1860 in the The Maitland Mercury & Hunter River General Advertiser; "Narrow Escape -- On Monday last, a young man named Richard Tickner was endeavouring to cross a creek in Dr. Strang's paddock. The water was very high, and Tickner endeavoured to cross on a narrow dam, but the horse shied, and he was precipitated into deep water. The force of the current carried him off his horse, and down the stream for three hundred or four hundred yards, when his brother Edward rushed into the water and managed to rescue him. The horse in the meantime swam out. Richard Tickner could not swim, and his escape, therefore, was little less than providential. -- Goulburn Herald Nov 3".4 He married Susan FULLER on 31 October 1861 at Christ Church in Bungonia, NSW.5

they lived at the Bungonia and Marulan districts of the Southern Highlands . Edward and Susan seem to have regularly moved from one farm to another. They were at Bungonia Creek sometime up to 1874, then at "Spring Ponds", north of Bungonia until about 1889. After that they were at Hogg's Farm at Jerrara. By 1903 they were farming at "Wattle Farm" Marulan and are recorded at "Wattle Vale" (possibly the same place) in 1912. A newspaper obituary to Edward records him as being resident at "Wattle Vale", Marulan for over 30 years. Sometime before 1917 they moved to Moss Vale where they lived with their daughter Elizabeth Ann and her husband James Tickner. Both died in Moss Vale.

As part of his bankruptcy proceedings, on 6 March 1886, Edward wrote a letter from Jerrara, Marulan and another one on 13 September from Windellama. It's not known if he and Susan were resident there at those times.6

he died (aged 86) on 23 May 1923 at "Karoola" in Moss Vale, NSW.7 He was buried in Bong Bong, NSW.8
