Kathleen Marie NEWTON1 [531] (known as 'Kay'), daughter of Leslie Darsey NEWTON (1910-1978) [143] and Sylvia May OWEN (1908-2005) [80], was born on 28 April 1938 in Waverley, NSW.2 In July 2012 she was diagnosed with the medical condition advanced secondary breast cancer. She had been in remission for about 20 years from a previous bout of the cancer.3

she died (aged 74) on 9 April 2013 at a hospital in a location to be determined. The cause was breast cancer.4 She was cremated on 15 April 2013 at Palm Chapel, Macquarie Park Cemetery, Plassey Rd in Macquarie Park. The service commenced at 11.15am. A wake was then held in The Terrace Reception Room at Macquarie Park.5,6,7

The family had a tradition which was to change the names that had been chosen by Syl and Les. Thus Kathleen became Kaydy, Elsie Joy became Joydy and Sylvia Lynette became Lindy.8

Grant Mathieu STONE1 [534] and Kathleen Marie NEWTON had the following children:

Would you mind telling Margaret and Francie and also apologise for our non attendance at the cousins' reunion later this month. Thanks, Grant"
[[5 Aug 2012 : Dear Denise, Kay and I thank you for your lovely message. The news has come as a shock as it was almost 20 years ago when Kay had her first experience with breast cancer. We thought we were over the hump.
We have made some progress over the past few days. A CAT scan seems to indicate that there is only skeletal, not soft tissue involvement. If that remains the case, and the tumours turn out to be oestrogen receptor positive (both times before that was the case) there is an 80% chance that she will respond to a drug that inhibits oestrogen synthesis. In the meantime she is in a lot of pain but that is being helped by strong painkillers and hopefully will be helped by small doses of radiotherapy but we cannot get an appointment until near the end of the month. So a lot of ifs but she is feeling more positive.
Will keep you posted. It will take several months before we know if the inhibitor drug will work.
Kind regards, Grant"]]
