Elizabeth TICKNER (1822-1880)

Elizabeth TICKNER,1,2 daughter of Edward TICKNER (1789-1864) and Sarah TOWNER (1784-1860), was born in April 1822 in East Guldeford, Sussex.1,2 She was baptised on 28 April 1822 in East Guldeford.3

she migrated from Gravesend, Kent to Camden, NSW arriving in September 1838 (approx.). She travelled to Australia on the "Florist" with her parents. They departed 14 June 1838.4 She married Joseph HILL on 17 June 1841 at St Phillip's Church in Sydney, NSW. They were married by banns. Her father, Edward TICKNER and her sister-in-law, Mary Ann TICKNER were witnesses.1,2,3 On 13 July 1847 she was a witness to the marriage of her brother, Henry Tickner to Martha Rideout.5 Elizabeth and Joseph probably lived at and managed a confectionery shop at a number of premises in Sydney. 1888: Elizabeth HILL confectioner 795 George St Sydney

Miss E HILL confectioner 598 George St Sydney & 117 Oxford St Sydney

As Elizabeth died in 1880 and no children have been found, the identity of the Elizabeth HILL listed in 1886, 1887, 1888 and the last entry is not known but she is recorded as Miss E HILL.3

Joseph and Elizabeth are not known to have had any children.3

Elizabeth died (aged 58) on 11 October 1880 at 793 George Street in Sydney. The cause was cancer. The following death notice was place in the newspaper :

HILL Elizabeth October 11, 1880; At her late residence 793 George Street, Elizabeth beloved wife of Joseph Hill confectioner, aged 58. Her end was peacefull.3,6 She was buried on 12 October 1889 in the Church of England section of Rookwood cemetery in Lidcombe, NSW. The following death notice was place in the newspaper :

HILL Elizabeth; The friends of Joseph Hill confectioner are respectfully invited to attend her funeral leaving 793 George Street THIS DAY (October 12) at quarter past 2 Oclock to Rookwood Necropolis Cemetery. W Stewart - Undertaker.3
