William OWEN (1837?- )

William OWEN,1 son of David OWEN (1801?- ) and Ann DAVIES (1806?-1861), was born in 1837 (approx.) in Llanelli, Glamorgan in Wales.1

in 1861 he and Mary Ann OWEN** lived at 15 Davies Row in Michaelson Lower, Neath District in Glamorgan County in Wales.2

he migrated from Plymouth, Devonshire to Adelaide, South Australia arriving on 4 December 1864. He travelled to Australia with his wife and family aboard the ship "Tarquin" which departed on 17 August 1864.3,4 He was a copper smelter Grade 1 .2

William and Mary had 3 children, Ann OWEN, David OWEN and Thomas OWEN . Ann was not with them when they came to Australia, so maybe she had died before departure. David and Thomas accompanied their parents from Plymouth to Adelaide in 1864 when they migrated to Australia on the "Tarquin". At that time David was 4 years old and Thomas was 1 giving birthdates of c.1860 and c.1863 respectively. Thomas died from Diarrhoea on the "Tarquin" on 3 October 1864 and was buried at sea.

It is believed they had a number of children after arriving in South Australia, some surviving others not. One who did survive was George Phillip OWEN b.1871 in Wallaroo SA. He moved to Newcastle married and had two children (one of whom was Horace OWEN and after a divorce, moved to Sydney where he married and had possibly four children).3,4,5,6 William married Mary Ann OWEN** "Date Unknown" .1

he died "Date Unknown" .
