Elizabeth HORTON (1851-1927)

Elizabeth HORTON was born on 19 May 1851 in Pitt Town, NSW.1 Elizabeths parents were Robert HORTON (b. 31 May 1826 Pitt Town, NSW; d. 9 Jan 1905) and Miriam MANCER. They were married 20 Nov 1848. They had eight children named Matilda, Elizabeth, Miriam, William, James, Thomas Angelina and Janet.2 Elizabeth married Henry RIDEOUT on 4 June 1867 at St Paul's Anglican church in Cobbity, NSW.1,3,4

Henry and Elizabeth had 11 children :

- Elizabeth Miriam RIDEOUT (b. 6 Sep 1870 Mulgoa Forest NSW). She married Andrew CHIDDY 28 Feb 1888 The Oaks NSW. Resided Burragorang Valley and had 7 children

- Caroline RIDEOUT (b.1872 Hartley NSW the BDM District 11070 / 1872)

- Emily RIDEOUT (b.1874 Hartley NSW the BDM District 12122 / 1874)

- Emily Caroline RIDEOUT (b. 19 Aug 1876). She married her cousin Sylvester Reuben JENKINS (son of William JENKINS and Caroline RIDEOUT) in 1896 and had 4 children

- William Henry RIDEOUT (b. 4 Jun 1878; d.22 Oct 1966 Kempsey NSW). He married Amy Augusta BYRNE (d. 22 Sep 1960) Kempsey NSW 18 Apr 1900 and had 9 children

- Sydney George Charlton RIDEOUT (b. 3 Feb 1881 Burragorang, NSW; d. 1958 Guildford NSW) ore classer. He married Serina May HUNT (b.1855 Cox's River NSW; d. 1968 Guildford NSW). They lived at Killarney, near Warrell Creek NSW in 1942 then moved Guildford NSW in Sydney

- Thomas Mancer James RIDEOUT (b. 24 Feb 1883; d. Jul 1949 Penrith NSW) wheelwright. He married Frances Marion GIBSON (b. 28 Jul 1878; d. July 1952 Penrith NSW) 6 Oct 1909 Werombi NSW and had 5 children. They lived at St Marys, NSW until 1911. Tom established sawmills at Quirindi NSW and Silverdale NSW before having a timberyard(c.1918) at Penrith NSW.

- Robert Andrew RIDEOUT (b. 30 Oct 1888; d. 17 Feb 1954 The Oaks NSW). He married Gertrude LEACH (d. 13 Dec 1972 The Oaks NSW) 19 Nov 1911 at the home of his aunt Mrs Henry RIDEOUT and had 7 children.

- Ada May RIDEOUT (b. 14 Jan 1890). She married Charles John SUTTON and had 3 children

- Reginald Charles RIDEOUT (b. 6 Nov 1894; d. 9 Aug 1953; bur. Narellan NSW). He married Fanny May ENGLISH (d. 11 Jul 1968; bur. Narellan NSW) and had 12 children

- Unidentified RIDEOUT (Birth Order Unknown).5,6 A family story has it that Henry, while drunk swapped his land at Rockbarton for a horse. It was a very good horse but this did not make him any more popular with his wife and family all of whom had to move off the land. The marriage was not a success and Henry and Elizabeth decided to live apart after their eleven children were born.7

Elizabeth died (aged 75) on 14 May 1927 in Camden, NSW.8 She was buried in May 1927 in St John's Churchyard in Camden.8

 

Henry RIDEOUT was the son of James RIDEOUT (1801?-1878) and Caroline BENNETT (1801-1872).
