Joseph Thomas CARVETH^1,2 was born in 1856 in Balmain, NSW.³ Joseph's parents were John CARVETH and Maria CARVETH**.³ Joseph married Mary ARNOLD in 1880 at Mary's parents' house in Bombala, NSW. Mary left Joseph c.1896 and took her children to the country where she worked as a cook.^1,2,4

Joseph and Mary had 2 children :

- William Walter CARVETH (b.1879 Nimmitybelle). He changed his name to CAVELL when he was about 16 years old. He became a soldier and went to the Boer War as a bugler. He married and had two children. He joined up for WWI and died from his wounds at sea during this conflict.

- Martha Ann Marie CARVETH (b. 1882 Bega NSW; d.1934 Newtown NSW). She married William H HALL in 1903 at Sydney NSW.^3,4,5

Joseph died "Date Unknown" .

Mary ARNOLD² was the daughter of Johann Josef ARNOLD (Jnr) (1826-1893) and Eva Sussanah SCHUPPEL (1831-1918).
