Edward Tickner (b.1867)

Rebecca WASHER1 (known as 'Beckie') was born on 28 December 1892 in Cungegong, NSW.2 Rebecca was the sixth child of William James WASHER and Sarah Jane McFARLAND.3,4 Beckie was a midwife .5 She married Edward TICKNER on 30 August 1911 in Frampton, NSW.1,4

They lived in a number of places over the years. Edward met Rebecca at Cootamundra. He was then aged forty-four and she was nineteen. in 1911 they lived in Cootamundra, NSW. for about six years and three of their five children were born there. They then moved to Como for awhile where another child was born before they moved to Bowral for a year or so around 1919. It was at this time that Edward worked for Jonathon Willis. After work finished at Bowral, the family moved to Penshurst for a short time before settling at a new location in Como where they built a house. Their fifth and last child was born there.4 From 1926 to 1934 she resided in Como, NSW. After Edward's death, Rebecca continued to live in the family home at Como. She continued living there for about a year after her second marriage.2

Edward and Rebecca had 5 children :

- Esmerelda Virrell TICKNER (known as Topsy) [b.1912]

- Noella Elizabeth TICKNER (known as Noli)

- William Edward TICKNER (known as Bill)

- Emily Sarah TICKNER (known as Sally)

- Betty TICKNER.6,7

Beckie married Robert W MCFARLAND in 1934 at the BDM District in Sutherland, NSW. Robert was her cousin.8,9

between 1934 and 1935 they lived in Como. The house was Rebecca's and then in about 1942 they moved to Kallangur Qld.2 After 1943 she resided in Kallangur, Qld. After Robert's death, she lived for awhile with her daughter Sally HERCHELL before returning to Sydney where she bought a house near her son Neville who lived at McQuarie Fields. Later on she moved in with Neville.2

Robert and Rebecca had one child, Neville MCFARLAND (b.1936).2

Beckie died (aged 83) on 12 September 1976 in Fairfield, NSW.2 She was cremated in September 1976 at Rookwood crematorium in Lidcombe, NSW.2

 

Edward TICKNER10 (known as 'Ted') was the son of Henry TICKNER (bef1821-1895) and Martha RIDEOUT (1828-1875).
