Edward TICKNER1 (known as 'Ted'), son of Henry TICKNER (bef1821-1895) and Martha RIDEOUT (1828-1875), was born on 24 August 1867 at "Camberfield" in Camden, NSW.2,3,4 He was educated at night school after long days working on the farm. He did this off his own volition in his later years . Initially Edward received very little education as his father thought farm work was more important than school.3

between 1899 and 1902 when aged 31-35 he served in the Boer War in South Africa . He enlisted through Damant's Horse, a contingent put together in South Africa and originally known as Rimington's Guides. He received the Queen's South Africa Medal and 3 Clasps - Cape Colony, October 1899 to May 1902; Orange Free State, February 1900 to May 1902 and Transvaal May 1900 to May 1902.5

On 20 February 1910 Ted resided in Gilgandra, NSW.6 He married Rebecca WASHER on 30 August 1911 in Frampton, NSW.4,7

They lived in a number of places over the years. Edward met Rebecca at Cootamundra. He was then aged forty-four and she was nineteen. in 1911 they lived in Cootamundra, NSW. for about six years and three of their five children were born there. They then moved to Como for awhile where another child was born before they moved to Bowral for a year or so around 1919. It was at this time that Edward worked for Jonathon Willis. After work finished at Bowral, the family moved to Penshurst for a short time before settling at a new location in Como where they built a house. Their fifth and last child was born there.7

he died (aged 59) on 19 December 1926 at Penrith Hospital in Penrith, NSW. The cause was a stroke suffered while working as a labourer on the Main Western Road at Mount Victoria, NSW. He died two days later.4,8 He was buried in December 1926 in Kingswood, NSW.1
