Michael COMMINS (1806-1891)

Michael COMMINS,1,2 son of Thomas COMMINS ( - ) and Catherine COMMINS** ( - ), was born in 1806 in Abbey, Clare.1,2 His relationship to Ellen is Maternal Great (x2) Grandfather. Michael married Mary CONROY in 1831/32 (approx.) at Abbey Parish in Abbey.1

Before 1850 Michael was a tenant farmer in Burren, Clare.1

he migrated from Burren to Sydney, NSW arriving on 28 June 1850. He came to Australia with his wife and family on the ship "LLoyds" which is estimated to have left about February 1850. The family settled in the Michelago district.1,3 The shipping documents indicate his place of origin as Cross Gleg, Co. Tyrone Ireland.4 In 1859 Michael was an innkeeper at Emerald Isle Inn in Michelago, NSW.1 In 1860/61 (approx.) he was a farmer and grazier in Water Holes Creek, NSW. This location was known both as Water Holes and Water Holes Creek. Michael farmed and lived there for the rest of his life.1,5

he died (aged 85) on 29 April 1891 in Water Holes Creek.1,6 He was buried on 1 May 1891 (approx.) in the Catholic section of the general cemetery in Michelago.6

 

COMMINS and CUMMINS are different spellings of the family name.

 

Mary CONROY1,2 was the daughter of Michael John CONROY ( - ) and Ellen LEE ( - ).
