John MCNAMARA (1838?-1886)

John MCNAMARA,1 son of Bartholomew MCNAMARA (1791?-1856) and Bridget LENEHAN (1788-1873), was born in 1838 (calculated) in Clare, Ireland. Shipping records indicate his native place as Lisdrumlandna, Clare.2,3,4 He was a follower of the Catholic faith .3 In 1851 he was a labourer .3 In 1851 he was able to read and write.3

John migrated from Plymouth, Devonshire to Port Jackson Sydney, NSW arriving on 14 August 1851. He travelled to Australia with his parents and siblings on the ship "Sarah" which left c. May 1851. They settled in the Queanbeyan NSW district.3,5 He married Catherine COTTER in 1875 at the BDM District in Queanbeyan, NSW.1

John and Catherine had 6 children :

- Bridget MCNAMARA (b.1876, Michelago NSW; d. 8 Jan 1879 Michelago NSW; bur. Michelago NSW in Grave 73)

- Catherine MCNAMARA (b. 9 January 1879, Michelago NSW; d. 27 January 1879, Michelago NSW; bur. Michelago NSW Grave 73)

- Anne Catherine MCNAMARA (b.1880, Michelago NSW; d. 27 June 1901 Michelago NSW; bur. Michelago NSW Grave 62). She married Patrick John KELLY (b. 1873 Braidwood NSW; d. 30 July 1945 Albury NSW; bur. Michelago NSW Grave 62)

- John James MCNAMARA (b.24 Jun 1882, Michelago, NSW). He married Dulcie B BAKER (b.1890 Tumut NSW; d.1954 Junee NSW) 1912 Tumut NSW

- Patrick Joseph MCNAMARA (b.1885, Michelago, NSW [31420 / 1885]; d. 15 Aug 1963 Wagga Wagga NSW; bur. Wagga Wagga NSW). He married Mary J WALSH 1907 Braidwood NSW

- Garret Michael Cotter MCNAMARA (b. 31 Jan 1887).1,6,7,8

John died (aged 48) on 12 June 1886 in Nass Creek, NSW.9 He was buried in the Catholic section of the general cemetery in Michelago, NSW.9

 

Catherine COTTER1 was the daughter of Garrett COTTER (1802-1886) and Ann RUSSELL (1819-1897).
