Bridget MCNAMARA (1834?-1907)

Bridget MCNAMARA,1,2 daughter of Bartholomew MCNAMARA (1791?-1856) and Bridget LENEHAN (1788-1873), was born in 1834 (calculated) in Clare, Ireland.1,2 She was a follower of the Catholic faith .3

she migrated to Sydney, NSW arriving before 1851. It's not known when she came to Australia but it's believed she was already there when her parants arrived on the "Sarah" on 14 August 1851.4,5 She married Patrick LAWLER on 30 May 1852 at St Gregory's Catholic Church in Queanbeyan, NSW.2,6

Patrick and Bridget had 6 children :

- John LAWLER (b. 1853 Woden NSW [Now ACT] )

- Bridget LAWLER (b. 1856 WodenNSW [Now ACT] )

- Mary LAWLER (b. 1857 WodenNSW [Now ACT] )

- Michael LAWLER (b. 1859)

- Thomas LAWLER (b. abt 1862)

- James LAWLER (b. 1864 Burra NSW).2,6

Bridget married James HOLDEN in 1865 in Queanbeyan.7

James and Bridget had 5 children :

- Elizabeth HOLDEN (b. c.1866)

- Catherine HOLDEN (b. c.1868)

- William HOLDEN (b. c.1870)

- Patrick HOLDEN (b. c.1872)

- Margaret Ann HOLDEN (b. c.1875).2,8,9

before 1876 Bridget and James HOLDEN lived at the Lawler residence in Woden, NSW (now ACT). All references to James Holden describe him as a farmer of Burra. It is presumed (although not certain) that these were references to the Lawler house.10

she died (aged 73) in 1907 in Forbes, NSW.11

Text From Source: "Bridget married Patrick Lawler at St. Gregory's on 30th May, 1852. She was eighteen years of age and her husband 23. Patrick Lawler was a native of County Clare. He had arrived in the colony in 1851 and was employed by Dr Murray at Woden, where his brother James, who had also emigrated in 1844, was employed. Three children were born to the couple at Woden, before they selected land on what is now known as Holden's Creek. Another son, James, was born at Burra on 20th January, 1864. Patrick Lawler died aged 35, on 22nd March, 1864. He was survived by his wife Bridget, four sons and two daughters."

When Badgery bought the Holden farm and added it to Burns Station, the two paddocks involved were henceforth to be known as Holden's and Little Holden's Paddocks."
