Louisa WELLER (1822-1900)

Louisa WELLER1,2,3 was born on 24 December 1822 in Beckley, Sussex.4,5 Louisa's parents were Timothy WELLER and Elizabeth WELLER**.6 Louisa was baptised on 16 February 1823 in Beckley. (probably).6

she migrated from England to Camden, NSW arriving on 26 May 1839. She came to Australia on the "Roxburgh Castles". She came in the care of John and Charlotte Gilbert. Gilbert was a blacksmith and a Wesleyan lay preacher from Pevensey, Sussex and he spent a few years at Camden before moving to South Australia.6,7 She married William BAXTER on 3 August 1842 at the Presbyterian church in Parramatta, NSW.6,8,9,10 She married Henry TICKNER in 1875 in NSW, Australia.6,11

she died (aged 78) in 1900 at "Mount Hercules" in Razorback, NSW. On 17 January 1900, a Coroner's Inquiry was held into Louisa's death as she had died suddenly. A verdict of death from natural causes was returned.3,9,12,13 She was buried in 1900 in an unmarked grave in the general cemetery in Cawdor, NSW.2

 

Henry TICKNER5 was the son of Edward TICKNER (1789-1864) and Sarah TOWNER (1784-1860).

Text From Source: Louisa Weller is assumed to be the person of that name who was born in Beckley, Sussex on 24 December 1822. She came in the care of John and Charlotte Gilbert. Gilbert was a blacksmith and a lay preacher at Camden before moving to South Australia. Louisa Weller married William Baxter in 1842 but no record of children by Baxter or by Henry Tickner has been found.
Louisa died at "Mount Hercules" in 1900 and seems to have been well regarded by her stepdaughters and all that has been discovered about her death comes from a newspaper cutting found in the scrapbook owned by Eliza Dengate Nichols. It is probably from the Camden News (date unknown).
