Peter TICKNER (1713-1782)
Peter TICKNER,1,2 son of Walter TICKNER (1660?-1756) and Patience HAFFENDEN (1679-1749), was born on 20 April 1713 in Hawkhurst, Kent.3 He was baptised on 26 April 1713 in Hawkhurst.3,4 His relationship to John is Maternal Great (x5) Grandfather. Peter resided in Ticehurst, East Sussex. (possibly at the time of his marriage).5 He was a farmer at Fieldgreen Farm in Sandhurst, Berkshire.6 He was a trader and importer in Sandhurst.6 He married Sarah BLUNT on 4 November 1740 in Wadhurst, East Sussex.1,3
in 1747 they lived in Sandhurst.6
he died (aged 68) in March 1782 in Hawkhurst.7
There is a belief amonst some researchers that he was the same Peter Tickner who was a member of the Hawkhurst Gang, found guilty of smuggling and transported to America as a convict. However, it is not clear whether the two Peters are the same man. See the Internet Biographical pages on Peter Tickner and Peter the Smuggler for more details.8
