Jean Margaret COLLIS (1911-2008)

Jean Margaret COLLIS¹ was born on 7 April 1911 at the BDM District in Kogarah, NSW.^2,3,4 Jean's parents were 'Col' Stanley Edward COLLIS (d. 29 July 1954 aged 66 Years) and Alice Mary COLLIS** (d. 10 June 1968 Aged 75 Years). They are both buried in Woronora Cemetery at Sutherland NSW.^5,6,7,8

Jean married Francis Charles OWEN in 1939 at the BDM District in Hurstville, NSW.⁹

between 1939 and 1968 they lived at 63 St Georges Pde in Hurstville. Frank and Jean were there for most of their married life. They did live at at least one other residence in Hurstville before acquiring this house but that location is not known.¹

In 1970, three years after Frank's death, Jean met and then married James SPRY. Sergeant William James SPRY (known as Jim) was an engineer with the Australian Army and shared Jean's love of photography. Jim had never been married before. She lived with him at 63 St Georges Pde, Hurstville, NSW and outlived him.^1,3

her interests included tennis, painting and photography. She was so good with the photography that she received a couple of commissions.¹⁰

Jean died (aged 97) on 2 October 2008 at St George District Hospital in Hurstville. The time of death was aprroximately 1.05pm.¹ She was buried on 9 October 2008 in Sect 3B, Plot 495 in Woronora cemetery in Sutherland, NSW. A service was held in the Woronora West Chapel at 2.30pm prior to internment and then a wake was held at the "Forget Me Not Cottage" at the cemetery.^1,11

She had an identical twin sister Isabel nicknamed Toss who was the elder of the two by about fifteen minutes. Toss outlived her by a couple of years.¹

Francis Charles OWEN¹ (known as 'Frank') was the son of John OWEN (1879-1970) and Rachel Elizabeth BURLEY (1883-1963). He and Jean Margaret COLLIS had the following children:
