Thomas MICHAEL (1780-1865)

Thomas MICHAEL1 was born in 1780 in a place still to be found.1 He was baptised on 17 September 1780 in Cuby with Tregony, Cornwall.2 Thomas' parents were John MICHAEL (b. 4 Nov 1751 Cornwall; d. 15 Oct 1840 Cuby with Tregony, Cornwall) and Elizabeth TRUSCOTT (b.1751 Probus, Cornwall; bap. 26 Aug 1751 Probus, Cornwall; d. Mar 1818 Cuby with Tregony, Cornwall; bur. 5 Mar 1818 Cuby with Tregony, Cornwall). They were married 25 Oct 1772 Cuby with Tregony, Cornwall. Other children aside from Thomas were Isaac (1773 - 1781), John (1774 - 1782), Charles (1783 - ), Ann (1783 - ), Joseph (1787 - ), Nancy (1789 - ) and John (1790 - ). They were all born in Cuby with Tregony, Cornwall. (Refer to sources for comments about whether all these children were theirs.).3 Thomas married Elizabeth MAY on 13 April 1810 in St Gluvias, Cornwall.1,2 In 1841 he was a labourer at Hallenkain in Phillack, Cornwall.4 In 1851 he was a farm labourer in Tregony, Cornwall.5 In 1861 he resided at 7 Cock Row in Tregony.6 In 1861 he was a Parish Sexton at 7 Cock Row in Tregony. His position has been described as a sort of caretaker, digging graves, cleaning, ringing the bell, etc.7 In 1865 he was a farm labourer in Veryan, Cornwall.8

Thomas and Eliabeth had 12 children :

- Louisa MICHAEL (Twin) (bap. 27 Sep 1818 Cuby with Tregony, Cornwall; bur. 8 Jan 1827 Mylor, Cornwall)

- Charles MICHAEL (b. 6 Jun 1823 St Austell, Cornwall; bap. 18 Aug 1823 St Austell, Cornwall)

- Thomas John MICHAEL (bap. 16 Apr 1826 Cuby with Tregony, Cornwall; d. 4 July 1861 Dangars Creek, NSW Death by drowning; bur. 29 Jul 1861 Dangars Creek, NSW)

- Louisa MICHAEL (b.1830 St Gluvias, Cornwall)

- William Henry MICHAEL (b.1831 Perranzabuloe, Cornwall; bap. 5 Jun 1831 St Gluvias, Cornwall; d.1898 St Austell, Cornwall)

- John Francis MICHAEL (b. 22 Jul 1833 Perranarworthal, Cornwall; bap. 1 Aug 1833 Cuby with Tregony, Cornwall; d.1900 St Erth, Cornwall; bur. 4 Dec 1900 St Erth, Cornwall).1,9

Thomas died (aged 85) on 4 April 1865 at Port Holland in Veryan. The cause was old age.1,10 He was buried on 7 April 1865 in Veryan.2

 

Elizabeth MAY1,2 was the daughter of John MAY (bap.1747, d.1829) and Elisabeth ANDREW (bap.1747, d.1835).
