Alexander ANDERSON (1853-1893)

Alexander ANDERSON,1 son of Robert ANDERSON (1832-1899) and Agnes WRIGHT (1831?-1871), was born on 13 April 1853 in Paisley, Renfrewshire in Scotland.1,2,3 He was christened on 8 January 1854 in Paisley.3

he migrated from Liverpool (Merseyside), Lancashire to Sydney, NSW arriving on 10 July 1854. He travelled with his parents Robert and Agnes who came as Bounty Immigrants. They travelled on the "Sabrina" which departed 28 March 1854.1,4 He was a stonemason .2,3,5 He married Sarah ALLEN on 22 November 1873 at Mrs Allen's residence in Newtown, NSW.3 On 13 September 1876 he resided at Denison St in Kingston near Newtown, NSW.5 He was a witness to the death of Thomas Kenny and gave evidence at the Coroner's Enquiry. On Sunday 10 September 1876, Kenny, John Stuart and he were together in a boat at Balmain when it capsized resulting in Kenny's death. The body was not recovered until the following Tuesday.5

- Agnes Wright ANDERSON (Known as Aggie) (B. 19 Jun 1877 Newtown NSW; d. 22 Jul 1937, 5 George St Manly NSW)

- Nellie ANDERSON (b.1878 Newtown NSW; d. 13 Feb 1914; bur. Rookwood, Presbyterian Section). She married in 1900 at Petersham NSW, William John READ (b. c.1875; d. 5 Oct 1939; bur. Rookwood, Presbyterian Section)

- Alexander ANDERSON (known as Alick) (b.1884 Glebe NSW)

- Robert ANDERSON (b.1888 Mullet Creek, Woy Woy NSW; d. 24 Jul 1916 (WWI at Poziers, France). He married in 1915 at Liverpool NSW, Violet A FARRINGTON.

[Robert was a Private No 2338 in the 2nd Infantry Battalion and departed from Sydney on HMAT Orsova on 14 Jul 1915. Occupation Pipe Moulder]

- Lillian Jessamin ANDERSON (Known as Jessie) (b.1891 Newtown NSW; d. 6 Nov 1961).2,3

Alexander died (aged 40) on 23 October 1893 at "The Home" in Thirlmere, NSW. The cause was Consumption. He had had this condition for about 20 months.1,3,6,7 He was buried on 24 October 1893 in the Church of England cemetery in Upper Picton, NSW.2,3
