Agnes Dick ALEXANDER (1839-1925)

Agnes Dick ALEXANDER,1,2 daughter of Alexander ALEXANDER (1801-1846) and Elizabeth LOW (1807-1888), was born on 21 January 1839 in Dundee, Angus in Scotland.3 She was christened on 3 February 1839 in Dundee.4 She was a follower of the Presbyterian faith .3 She married Thomas IRELAND on 22 November 1860 in Monifieth, Angus in Scotland.5

she migrated from Scotland to Australia arriving in 1870/71 (estimated).6,7 Between 1871 and 1874 she resided at 1 Hopewell Street in Paddington, NSW.8

Thomas and Agnes are known to have had two sons James Playfair IRELAND (b.1861) and Alexander IRELAND (b.1863) followed by two daughters Elizabeth L IRELAND, and Jessie D. (or Janet Duff) IRELAND. Another child, Agnes Alexander IRELAND was born in Apr 1871 in Crown Lane Paddington NSW. As her birth certificate shows her as illegitimate, it is probable that Thomas Ireland wasn't the father.5,9 Agnes married Robert ANDERSON on 4 June 1877 at the Minister Henry Macready's home at Crown Rd in Ultimo, NSW.2,5,10,11

on 22 February 1881 they lived at Margaret St in Newtown, NSW.12

on 15 September 1884 they lived at Rosser St in Balmain, NSW.13

in 1899 they lived at 154 Australia St in Camperdown, NSW. They were living here at the time of Robert's death.14,15

she died (aged 86) on 15 April 1925 at Queens Rd in Westmead, NSW. The cause was Uraemia, Chronic Nephritis and Senile Decay.5,16,17 She was buried on 16 April 1925 in the Presbyterian section of the general cemetery in Waverley, NSW.3

 

Robert ANDERSON13 was the son of Alexander ANDERSON (1797?-aft1854) and Mary CAMPBELL (1794?-aft1854). He and Agnes Dick ALEXANDER had the following children:

Agnes' death certificate transcript says she lived in NSW for 52 years. With a death date of 1925, it is possible she arrived in Australia c.1873

She stated there, that she had been there for 3 years. This means she probably arrived 1870 or early 1871. She could not have arrived earlier than 1869 nor later than 1871"
