The Camden News of 15 February 1900 reported John's death. A cutting of this report was found in the scrapbook of John's sister, Eliza Dengate Nicholls (nee Tickner). This is reproduced from Max Laidley's Tickner book, Page 61
On Thursday, February 8, Mr John Tickner, aged 43, son of the late Mr Henry Tickner, expired at the Camden Cottage Hospital, where he had been under treatment for some internal complaint. Deceased worked on the farm of Mr F J Dengate's as a confident man, and lived on Mr Frank Dengate's property, Camden. He leaves a family of 9 besides a circle of friends and relatives by whom he was deeply respected. The funeral took place at Camden, and was largely attended. The Rev. Effernan conducted the service in an impressive manner.
