    In consequence of the tempr illness of Mr Scholt, Schoolmaster and the great number of female children on board the ship 'Earl of Zetland' Miss Blake acted in the capacity of Schoolmistress, to my entire satisfaction, and I have much pleasure in recommending her for a small gratuity for her services performed.

It appears Dr Cunningham Surgeon Superintendent of the "Earl of Zetland" appointed a Schoolmistress to teach the famale children on board. I did not feel justified in paying Miss Blake a gratuity, as I thought the number of children on board did not justify DDDr Cunningham in appointing a female in addition to a male teacher. I agreed to forward his communication to the Honorable the Minister of Immigration for his decision.
