ARRIVAL OF THE MONARCH at
WELLINGTON
New Zealand Spectator & Cook
Strait Guardian, May 25th 1850
The Monarch arrived on Tuesday from Akaroa after a week's passage; while at Akaroa we are sorry to learn that an unfortunate accident occurred by which four lives were lost. Three of the crew of the Monarch and a black man from Sydney put off on Saturday evening after dark from the vessel to go ashore in a boat belonging to Mr Bruce of Akaroa, when the boat was swamped and all hands in her were drowned.
