Mrs. Charles Betters, 75, life-long resident of Marinette who lived at 315 Bay View St., died at 5:45 a.m. today in Marinette General Hospital where she had been a patient since September 18. Death followed an illness of a year. The former Mayme Gamlin was born in this city October 8, 1887. She married Mr. Betters October 4, 1910, in St. Joseph's Church. The late Father Corry officiated. The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in October 1960. Surviving with her husband are a son, Mervin of Chicago, and three daughters, Mrs. Andrew Penl and Mrs. Henry Keller of Marinette and Mrs. Harold Fritz of Peshtigo. Also surviving are five brothers and a sister, all of Marinette. They are Albert, George, Louis, Myron, and William Gamlin and Florence Belanger. There are 26 grandchildren. A sister, Mrs. Joseph St. Peter, died a mouth ago. Services will be conducted Thursday at 9 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, of which she was a member. The Rev. Omer J. Champagne will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery. Friends may call at the Zeiler funeral home after 4 p.m., Wednesday. The rosary will be recited Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

The former Lucille Betters was born here Jan. 28, 1911, and was a lifelong Marinette resident. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. She was married to Henry Keller Oct. 17, 1929, in Marinette. He died in November 1974. Surviving are six sons, Henry W., Dennis, Gerald, James, Roger and Kenneth, all of Marinette; seven daughters, Mrs. Roy Chevalier and Mrs. Lester Pesola of Marinette, Mrs. James Haas of Mount Prospect, Ill., Mrs. Jerome Nesbitt, Mrs. Sam Smith and Mrs. Clarence Pichette of Menominee and Mrs. Allen Ebner of Long Prairie, Minn.; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Fritz of Peshtigo and Mrs. Alice Penl of Marinette, 44 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Harold William Fritz, 81, of 156 N. Wood Avenue, Peshtigo, passed away on Wednesday, March 24, 2004, at his home after a long courageous 7 1/2 year battle with cancer. He was born on October 20, 1922, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Emil F. (Christine Malke) Fritz. He graduated from Ripon College and on January 05, 1944, he married the former Mary "Elizabeth" Betters. Harold worked at Badger Paper Mill for 44 years except for the three years of service in the Army during World War II. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, was an alderman for 17 years and served on many different committees on the Peshtigo City Council. He was an avid Packer fan, enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and camping, spent many years camping with family and friends and spending winters in Arizona. Harold is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Elizabeth; his children: Dennis (Markie) of Green Bay, Marlene (Frank) Bienat of Rice Lake, Michael (Diane) of Peshtigo,and Lynette (Joseph) Brosig of Marinette; grandchildren: Scott, Jeff, and Greg Fritz, Nicole and Kimberly Biernat, Melissa and Ben Fritz, and Alison, Heather, Ashley, and Joey Brosig; eight great-grandchildren, along with two step-great-grandchildren; brothers: Omar, Roy and Emil; and one sister, Vivian Bertrand. He was preceded in death by one sister, Geneva Baldwin; and one brother, Clarence. Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 27, 2004, at Berth and Rosenthal Funeral Home from 11 a.m. until 1:45 p.m. The Badger Retirees will pay their respects at 11:30 a.m. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church, Peshtigo. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Peshtigo.

Albert L. Gamlin, 82, who formerly resided at 413 Lake St., Marinette, died Sunday at 4:35 p.m. in St. Joseph-Lloyd Hospital where he had been a patient for three weeks. Mr. Gamlin was born in Peshtigo Harbor on July 6, 1889. He was a retired commercial fisherman and had also been employed by the Sawyer and Goodman Co. in Marinette. He was married to the former Emma Berggren in 1920. She preceded him in death in 1940. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Marian Woods, Menominee; one son, Robert Gamlin of Menominee; a stepson, Clayton Muller of Marinette, one sister, Mrs. Florence Belanger of Marinette; four brothers, George, Louis, William, and Myron, all of Marinette; seven grandchildren. One daughter preceded him in death. Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the Zeitler Funeral Home. Services will be held in the funeral home at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Rev. Waldemar Framstead will officiate. Burial will be made in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Myron L. Gamlin, 71, of 531 Water St., died today at Marinette General Hospital. He had been ill for several years.Mr. Gamlin was a native of the city and was born February 28, 1902. He spent his entire lifetime here. For 20 years he was a commercial fisherman. He worked in construction work for 10 years and had worked at Marinette Water Utility from 1956 until he retired on March 17, 1967. Since his retirement he was a part-time employee of Radio Station WMAM. He was a member of St. Joseph's Church. On November 27, 1926, he married the former Elvira Grandaw in Marinette. She survives along with a son, Myron F. of Marinette; four daughters, Mrs. Dennis Grall of Escanaba, Mrs. Ralph Mazzie and Mrs. George Jensen, both of Racine, and Mrs. Joseph Carpino of Corona, California. Also surviving are three bothers, George, Louis, and William, all of Marinette; a sister, Mrs. Florence Belanger, also of Marinette; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Friends may call at the Thielen funeral home from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday. A wake service will be held there at 7 p.m. Thursday. Final rites will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church with the Rev. James Feely officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery.

Death Occurs At Madison Hospital

Clinton Gamlin, 48, of 627 Main St., a commercial fisherman, died late Thursday afternoon at Wisconsin General Hospital at Madison. He had been in ill health for eight months. He resided in Marinette his entire life and was married to the former Marcella La Vigne of this city 26 years ago. He was bon here February 18, 1907, and was known as "Teddy" by his acquaintances. Besides his widow, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. John Rogers, and two sons, Gerald and Roger, all of Marinette. Other survivors are five brothers Louis, William, Albert, George, and Myron of Marinette; three sisters, Mrs. Charles Betters and Mrs. Lawrence Belanger of Marinette and Mrs. Joseph St. Peter of Menominee, and one granddaughter. The body is at Zeitler funeral home. Arrangements for final rites have not been completed.
