Sherry's Grandmother, Sarah Rupe, my aunt "Sadie"
I guess I always thought that Sadie was the nickname for Sarah but that is probably because of grandma.
You know I think about her all the time when someone talks about chickens. I have always been absolutely terrified of chickens, actually anything that has feathers on it, but grandma always had chickens and she would always go out and feed them. You know how they did it with the feed in the skirts of their dresses and stand there yelling "Here chick, chick, chick".
I would never get close to her when she was doing that but I would get to stay at her house at times when I was little and she would tell me to go and feed the chickens. That would scare the living hell out of me but because grandma asked me to and do it I would head out there.
Well I can guarantee you that I sure never ever stood there yelling chick chick. I would tear out there and grab that food and throw that crap as far and as fast as I could then run like hell back into the house. I would wonder the whole time I would be doing this why grandma would have me do this when she knew I was scared shitless of those birds and it took me until I was an adult to figure out that when ever I was out there I would see grandma at the window watching me and now I realize that she was there laughing her ass off because of it. I was grandma's entertainment.
I still miss my Grandma even though she has been dead about 19 years now. She was a very sweet woman. Never said a bad thing about anyone. And she had all the reason in the world to say bad things about alot of people.
The following is just conversation, but I want to capture some of my cousins in conversation for genealogy's sake
It is too bad that we live so far apart because I would love to drive you up to Ottumwa. I know how much you want to go there to just look around. What is your sisters name that lives in Ottumwa? Maybe someone that I know over there knows here.
As for the pictures that you want of your parents grave I would be very happy to go and get pictures of them for you. And I will also take pictures of all the graves that I see that have Rupe on them too. If there are any other ones that you can think of just let me know and I will see if I can find them and get those for you too. Unless you want true pictures that you can hold I will just take digital pictures of them. When I get a bunch of pictures on my computer then I just burn them onto a cd so I will always have them so I could burn the ones that I get for you and just send you the cd. But I also have a camera that uses film and if you would rather have them on film I would be happy to do that for you too.
We are over to Ottumwa all the time in the summer because John helps on a couple of race cars and then they go racing. We were over there a couple of weeks ago but there was no way you could see anything at a cemetery because of all the snow we have up here right now. We haven't seen the ground for a month and a half.
My moms parents are buried in the Ottumwa cemetery and a bunch of her sisters and brothers. Her side is the one that is really hard to work on. My mom has 17 brothers and sisters and she doesn't know most of their names. I know of a few of them but not real well because my mother never had too much to do with her family. I know last year she lost 4 or 5 sister and brothers and also my dad.
I also wanted to tell you that remember I told you that we figured out that my husbands boss was related to me? Well come to find out he has a deed to a place in Wapello county for Israel Rupe. I asked John to see if he would scan it for me and send it to me and when I get it I will send it to you too. When I discovered that I was related to Johns boss,
he and his wife couldn't believe it until they got to reading more.
I said to John the next time I am up to where he works I am going to go in and call chuck, John's boss, Cuz!!!!! John and Chuck are the only two that work where John does so they talk alot to each other.
I sure hope you don't over do yourself on your site. And let other people work on their own stuff themselves. I know how hard that is to tell people no but there are sometimes we just have to learn to do it. Just remember how easy it is for other people to tell you no and learn from that. I am not a good one to say anything about telling people no because I am always doing things for people but they sure don't do anything back for you. I am slowly learning the word no. And I understand about typing. This took me from 1 when Cory left to get this done so don't feel bad about that. My hands just don't work the way I want them to and I make so many mistakes because they don't move to where I think they are so I am always going back and correcting stuff all the time. My hands can make me so mad at times but I just keep going and slowly but surely I usually get stuff done.
Take care of yourself and don't over do it.
Love ya
