From a researcher that was helping me
Mary,
I was reading the 1802 tax list last night and saw Martin Roop (must be the one who married Christine Zirkel since older Martin is dead in 1801) listed in militia company no. 2. This was generally the western side of Lee magisterial District.

These old people generally married people that (1) they went to church with, (2) lived near, (3) were already connected to somehow. And, when they went west, they generally went in groups. So, I figure there's a good chance Martin lived near George Zirkel. I know George had land on the North Fork of the Shenandoah and in Forestville. He is also listed in the 1802 tax in Company 2. Furthermore, Martin out in Gallia lived near the Dursts, Holmans, and McCartys, all of whom came from that general area of Shenandoah County. If I had to make a guess where to start looking, I'd put my bet on the Forestville area (within maybe 2 miles, quite possibly on Holman's Creek). Not much help I know - just a guess.
