Jacob Roop & Martin Roop Ancestry

FIRST GENERATION

Jacob Roop was born about 1720 supposedly, in Berne, Switzerland, but they lived in Germany, near Alsace Lorraine Germany/France at some point as I remember my mother telling us stories that were told to her about her Rupe ancestors. She spoke a little German and tried to teach me, but all I retained is "come here immediately", and knowing how to spell it is anothher deal all together! (kommen heir;da gliech) sorry about that!

We did find a Jacob Rupp that married a Anna Glocklerin in Wurtenburg, Necharkasis, but have no proof that they connect. However, he did marry an ANNA
Jacob died 1814.

Although we have not been able to prove any of it, another researcher, David Rupe, sent my family some of the information on the Rupe Families in the 1970's. He and his daughter were writing a book. This person is now deceased, or so we are told. Another researcher, Joseph Rupe corresponded with another family member, and we are under the impression that this man also passed away before being able to finish a book on the RUPE's.

The following is the tale my mother told me over and over again about her Rupe Family
She said that she was told that several brothers and one sister had come to America and that they had split up with some staying in Pa., and some going into Va., BUT that that no one ever heard from the sister again.

She said they had come from Alsace Lorraine, which was always in dispute between France and Germany. She had wanted to name our sister "Alsace Lorraine", but settled for only "Lorraine" to satisfy our "English" father.

She told me that I would find musicians and teachers among her family and I have found that to be true. I have found hardworking, honest and organized folk among them, but much to my delight, I have also found artists and dreamers!

They have built homes, churches, raised huge families and have been greatly involved in their communities, serving on schoolboards, juries, as Constables or Justice of the Peace. But through all that, I find the art of Painters and Basket Makers.

Finding all my Rupp/Roop/Rupe family has been a gratifying experience. I am very proud of their accomplishments and involvements. I am proud to carry the Rupe blood in my veins!

Can you connect our family to Johannes Rupp, b. 1728 m. Margaret Frey 1750?? He came to Philadelphia PA on the Phoenix 1749 with our Jacob Rupp, If you can, please contact me. We would love to have proof they were brothers.
