Nicolas P. Schaefer & Susanna Nimsgern
Nicolas P. Schaefer was the son of Johann Schaefer and Anna Catherina Daub. He was a veteran of the Civil War, having served in the 13th IL Cavalry. On 4 Feb 1869, Nicolas married Susanna Nimsgern, daughter of Johann and Susanna Nimsgern. Nicolas and Susanna had ten children, one daughter and nine sons. Only three of the eleven children survived to adulthood. The three sons who survived to adulthood were Henry Francis, Robert Nicolas, and Simon.
Susanna was the sister of my 2x great-grandfather, John Nimsgern. Nicolas re-married following the death of Susanna. He married Margaretha Magdelena Stilling, daughter of Johann Gerhardt Stilling and Katharina Schmitt, on 6 December 1884. Nicolas and Margaretha had six children, Elizabeth ( married Peter Adams ), Anton, Anna Margaretha ( married John William Adams ), Catherine ( married Henry Adams ), John and Marie Gertrude (married Peter J. Myer).
