Henry Stilling & Anna Catharina Kernebeck
Henry Stilling was the son of Johann Gerhardt Stilling and Katherina Schmitt, daughter of Frederich Schmitt and Anna Schaefer. Johann Gerhardt Stilling was born 12 Mar 1815 in Westphalia, Germany, the son of Johann Heinrich Stilling and Vera Elizabeth Tonyan. According to a family biography, he was orphaned and raised by English people. He came to America about 1842 and settled in the Johnsburg area. He and Katharina Schmitt traveled to Chicago in the 1850's where they were married. Their children were Johann Henry born 3 Mar 1850, Maria Catharina born 6 Nov 1854, Johann Baptist born 1 May 1859, Johann Bernard born 16 Apr 1863, Johann Joseph born 18 Oct 1865. Johann Gerhardt Stilling died 9 June 1895, in Johnsburg, IL and Katharina died 2 May 1917, in Johnsburg, IL.
Henry Stilling married Anna Catharina Kernebeck on 26 April 1877, at St John the Baptist Catholic Church, in Johnsburg, IL. Anna Catharina was the daughter of Johann Bernard Kernebeck and Adelaide Hemling. Soon after their marriage, they began farming on their own farmstead at Pistakee Bay, until Henry retired in 1922 at which time they moved to Johnsburg. At the time Henry and Anna celebrated their Golden Anniversary, on 27 April 1927, they were the parents of twelve children, fifty-one grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Anna passed away at the age of sevety years in 1928, she was survived by ten children, fifty-three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Henry passed away at the age of eighty years in 1932, he was survived by ten children, fifty-four grandchildren and seven great-granchildren. Anna and Henry are at rest at St John's Cemetery in Johnsburg, IL
