Hermann and Martha (Kroebel) Baetz

Hermann was a quarrymaster, near the small town of Uftrugen in Central Germany, near the Harz Mountains. He was killed in the explosion of a powderhut, in Feb of 1905. Hermann and Martha were the parents of nine children at the time of Hermann's death, and their daughter Clara was born after this tragic event.

Martha came to America, arriving at Ellis Island in Nov of 1925. Her daughter Martha and sons Paul and Herman had preceded her to America. Her daughter Clara came the following month, Dec of 1925. Martha was a diabetic, and a short time after she came to America, she died from complications of this disease. She is buried at the Oakwood Cemetery in Chicago, IL. Her sons Paul and Herman are also buried at Oakwood Cemetery.

Hermann and Martha are my paternal great-grandparents, their daughter Clara is my grandmother. Information in Family Group Records was obtained from family members and vital records.
