Links about the War and Records of Family who defended our freedom.
I include the records for the War of 1812 on this page also. Scroll past World War I records for records of 1812. For other wars check individual links on previous page.
Ben Briggs wrote home to his mother and his girlfriend. Some postcards were supplied that were already written so that they could send news home as soon as possible. This one was sent to Lilly Briggs from her son Ben. Notice there is no stamp. Where the stamp would be it says "Soldiers' Mail". No need for a house address back then since the towns were very small and most people just picked up their mail from the post office. For the address it has U.S.A. pre-printed on the bottom. According to family lore Ben and his brother served time in France and Germany during World War I. As soon as Ben returned home he married Edith Knapp. Letter to Mother. Pre-printed side Address side
Letter to Edith from Ben while stationed in France. This card was the type that was made by girls in France, to sell, for the soldiers to send home. Ben mentions to Edith that he has a ring, for her, on this postcard.
Photos of Benjamin F. Briggs can also be seen on the Briggs page along with other pictures of his family. Click on photo to see larger size.
