This Stanley line is claimed to be rather dubious, starting with Sir Edward Stanley. This may be a valid Stanley line but there is no real proof that it is our Stanley line. Several of the families that married Stanleys trace their roots to most of the royalty of Europe and beyond--if you can believe the story. It makes for fun reading, though.

(This is where it gets dicey. Sir Edward was born and died in England. Even if he travelled, I don't think he could have made the trip very fast. So then how could Thomas have been born in Virginia?)
