This is my Grandma Ruth. She tried to teach me to play the piano. This family, on her mother's side, includes Lincoln Steffens, famed muckraker of the 1930s. He is a step-cousin of my grandma. Joseph Steffens, Sr. was a Methodist minister and built the only rammed earth house in the state of Illinois. The Fahrneys supposedly came from Switzerland, but I haven't been able to confirm that. This is the family that gave me my name.
