Tilly (Tillie) Freelander
Chicago, Illinois
1900

I am looking for information regarding my great-grandmother, Tilly (Tillie) Freelander. Tilly (8 years old) and her sister, Amanda (10 years old), are listed as inmates at the Chicago Home for the Friendless in the 1900 Census. That Census and one picture of her with my great-grandfather, Henry Fredrickson, are the only things I have of them. In the 1920 Census, Henry and Tilly Fredrickson were still living in Chicago and had a son, my grandfather Leo. Also, it seems that Tilly's father, John Freelander (64 years old) was living with them also. That sums up all that I have been able to find on the family, so if anyone has any information I would be greatly appreciative. Thank you.

I am ISO my mother's family, placed in a Catholic orphanage in Pittsburgh PA circa 1938 upon the death of their mother, Margaret Agnes Delaney. Their father was George Byron Weber. My mother, Mary Lou, was the oldest of the children, born 2/23/27. The other children -- there were 3 or 4 -- were named George, Jack, and Barbara. Those are the names I know. If any of this is familiar, please contact me. My mother has passed away.

Alonzo Earl was taken when a very young child.Someone paid $25.00 per month for his care. Mrs Earl felt unable to give him a home. She took him to the orphant asylum. He thought his (sister?) maybe Mary may have taken there. He did remember riding a train a distance but at age 5 what is a distance. He thought maybe from New York? He longed to know who he was and where he came from. It is my desire to solve this in my lifetime. I am 73 years of age. Will compensate. Marge

Bertha, Fanny and Olive Chamlee, Shamblee, Shabley, Chamblee
Either Dallas Texas area or Texarkana Arkansas
1915 til unknown

I am searching for information about the exact date of my greatgranmother's death. Jacob l. Chamlee ( see above spellings) and Arminta "Minnie" Lemon were married in Lamar County Texas on Sept. 21,1897. In 1901 they were in Hugo Oklahoma as per the birth certificate of their oldest son Henry. In the census of Logan County Arkansas in 1910 they had Henry, Bertha(my grandmother) and Fanny. Olive was born in 1912 in Texarkana Arkansas. Sometime before 1916 Minnie died and Jacob tried to raise the kids. Henry was supposed to stay home and watch the girls but would go hunting. One time he was gone and a cold front came in Bertha aged 7 tried to lite a fire and set the house on fire. Jacob gave the girls to a relative of Minnie's but they could not care for them. So Jacob took the girls to an orphanage. My grandmother remebered living there but not the name for sure or where it was she thought Dallas. Olive was only 1 1/2 and was adopted by a family named Liston. According to her children it was in Texarkana. Bertha and Fanny were farmed out. Did orphanges do that? Bertha was formally adopted by Dewey Hutson in 1922 so he could sign for her to marry him (she was only 16). They married in June 25th 1922. Bertha found all her siblings and none of them ever remembered knowing where their Mother died or the name of the orphanage. Can you help? They all passed away wondering where their mother died and what ever happened to their Father.

Haynes
Ohio or Michigan?
20?

I am looking for information on my grandfather, Harry Haynes, a full blooded Chippewa Indian who married my grandmother, Myrtle Keeney, in Chesapeake, Ohio around 1903-4. They had two daughters, Faye and Clyde(Carol). He was kicked off the Keeney farm by my great aunt, Annie Keeney Adams before my mother, Carol was born. I have not been able to find any records of Harry anywhere. I do know that many Indian children were taken from their homes either legally or snatched by white people and put up for adoption. Their heritage was wiped out because being "Indian" was not socially acceptable during that time.

Children's Home, New Jersey
late 1930's to early 1940's

Looking for info or someone who may have viewed info on The Children's Home in New Jersey, for the late 1930's to early 1940's. My Mother "attended" this Home quite a few times in her youth and I was hopeful that a census or record might help shed some light on a few family mysteries. I was able to locate, online, a census for 1900 but that is too early for what I am looking. Thank you so much for any and all help, advice, and suggestions. ALL the very best to you and your loved ones. .

Hainault, Haineault, Hunault, Henault
Ste. Rose/Laval, Quebec, Canada
1942-1944

Elzear Hainault resided at L'Institut St. Ephrem in what is now Laval, Quebec, Canada as he had tuberculosis. This was very likely a TB asylum. He died here in November 1944 and was returned to Valleyfield, Quebec for burial. Laval was developed by incorporating many small communities in the 1950's. I cannot find census records or any information about the former towns that comprise Laval to locate where he may have lived prior to St. Ephrem and secure an accurate date of death. Can anyone help? Fennell
Joplin, Missouri (Jasper County)
1925 to 1928

Trying to locate orphanage(s) in or around Joplin Missouri/Jasper County Missouri. My mother and her two older siblings were placed in an orphanage in that area in 1925. Have contact with her older sister's children (she is now deceased) but I am trying to find out what happened to her older brother. He was born Jesse William Fennell, Jr., January 19, 1922 (being adopted, that may have changed slightly as my mom's did). From vague accounts, he was soon adopted and my mother stated that she thought he went by the name Ed Nelson (he may have gone to Oklahoma or Kansas since Joplin is on their borders). My mother was adopted when she was 12. She was adopted under her birth surname Fennell but the Children's Home of Joplin does not list any children with the surname of Fennell as ever having been there.

Am searching for info on orpans homes in louisville, Ky 1893 and few yrs following. Was told my maternal grandfather HAL JACKSON b. 8 Nov. 1893(parents James T. Jackson and Edith England )was "adopted out several times" I suspect he was born MUHLENBERG COUNTY, KY to unwed mother and taken to the orphans home in Louisville. As an adult was in Muhlenberg County, Ky and married my grandmother, Opal Irene Smith in 1922. ANY info is greatly appreciated. Betty Jackson Kaio bkaio@bellsouth.net
