** Transcriber's Notes **

A  This is the name of the orphanage as given in the original census and is
probably not the actual name of the home. Also, no address was given but
it was enumerated side by side with enumeration for "Orphan Home White"
(no address given here, either). Each of these orphanages had different
but consecutive numbers entered in the "order of visitation" columns and
were therefore transcribed here as separate institututions.

Columns above represent name, relation, color, gender, birth month, birth
year, age, marital status, number of children, number of living children,
birth place, father's birth place, mother's birth place, occupation, months
unemployed, months at school, can read, can write, can speak English, home
or farm.

Columns omitted are year married, year of immigration, years in United States,
naturalization, home owned or rented, home owned free or mortgaged, number
of farm schedule.

Transcriber used the abbreviations Ken for Kentucky, S Car for S. Carolina,
Vir for Virginia, Un for Unknown, Mary for Maryland, Y for yes and N for no.

Address of Orphanage: not given in census.
This census was taken June 8, 1900 by J. L. Wills, Enumerator.

6 Birth month entry for this person in the original document is a straight
line. It is unclear whether the straight line in this instance indicates
"unknown" or "same as the above".
8 Birth month entry for this person in the original document is a straight
line. It is unclear whether the straight line in this instance indicates
"unknown" or "same as the above".
13 Birth month entry for this person in the original document is a straight
line. It is unclear whether the straight line in this instance indicates
"unknown" or "same as the above".
15-17 Birth month entries for these persons in the original document are
straight lines. It is unclear whether each straight line in these
instances indicate "unknown" or "same as the above".
17 "All Unknown" is written across parents' birth place columns; the
notation may have been meant/intended for all the children and not just
    this person.
21 Birth month entry for this person in the original document is a straight
line. It is unclear whether the straight line in this instance indicates
"unknown" or "same as the above".
22 Spelled "Besie" in original document; might be Bessie.
23 Birth month entry for this person in the original document is a straight
line. It is unclear whether the straight line in this instance indicates
"unknown" or "same as the above".
27 First name is hard to read; looks like "Len" or "Lerr" as written. Might
    be Levi or something similar.
