Personal Loss of A Family Living through

the First World War

George William Puttick(b 1872)and Ruth nee Smith had 4 sons and one daughter;

George William Patrick Puttick (born 1893)

Edward Richard Puttick (born 1897)

James Joseph (born 1903)

Alfred Charles (born 1907)

Dorothy Ruth (born 1915)

Sadly,the First World War, brought personal tragedy to the Puttick Family....

George and Ruth's first born son, George William Patrick Puttick grew up and worked as a painter for a while. Then he saw the Canadian Regiment were placing posters around Sussex advertising for young new recruits to join in the Campaign to fight against the Germans in the First World War. George signed up with the Canadian Infantry on 7 February 1915....Private 401492 1st Bn Canadian Infantry (Western Ontaria Regiment)

George had not been with the Regiment for long, when he met his death in battle.... On 30 January 1916, Blean Private 401492 1st Bn Canadian Infantry (Western Ontaria Regiment) -

George Puttick was laid to rest at the Cemetary in Herne Bay Kent

George and Ruth's second son, Edward Richard Puttick, born June 1897, also signed up to go to war. He died on 7 July 1916 in The Battle of the Somme, France. .. Private 4614 serving for the 58th Machine Gun Corps (Infantry). Edward's Grave, at Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France. Pier and face 5c and 12 CWGC

George and Ruth's third son, Alfred Charles born June 1907, Hastings. We do not have any information on him, except that he died about the age of 30 in 1937. Their fourth son, James Joseph b March 1903 Hastings, GRO 2b 16, married Kate Wilson in Leicester. James died in 1984.

George and Ruth's only daughter, Dorothy R Puttick born September 1915, Hastings, GRO 2b 30 married someone by the surname Cox. No more is known about her.

George Puttick senior, was said to be living in 1916 at 10 North Terrace, Halton, Hastins and died in 1945.
