     Alexander Hamilton ABNEY was born on 24 March 1822 in Richmond, Virginia, son of Thomas Hamilton ABNEY and Mary Ann Gosden.1,2
     Alexander Hamilton ABNEY appeared on a census, enumerated 1 June 1830, in the household of Thomas Hamilton ABNEY and Mary Ann Gosden in Bibb (now Chilton) County, Alabama.3
     Alexander Hamilton ABNEY appeared on a census, enumerated 1 June 1840, in the household of Thomas Hamilton ABNEY and Mary Ann Gosden in Bibb (now Chilton) County, Alabama.4
     Alexander married Mrs. Rachel Casey on 27 May 1844 in Franklin Parish, Louisiana.5
     Alexander saw military service in 1846 in Texas during the Mexican War. He also fought in the Texas Indian Wars.
     Alexander Hamilton ABNEY appeared as head of household on a census enumerated 1 June 1850 in Point Pleasant, Upshur County, Texas. The household was listed as August and M. A. E. Mosley family plus A. H. Abney, age 28, a teacher born in South Carolina, and L. H. Abney, a five-year-old male born in Georgia. Also in the household was J. D. Dickson.6
     Alexander married Martha Marinda CAMP circa 1851 in Upshur County, Texas.7
     Alexander Hamilton ABNEY was a trustee on 11 February 1854 in the Gilmer Masonic Male Academy, Upshur County, Texas. In 1858 he served in the Texas legislature from Upsur County.8,9 He was postmaster on 29 December 1857 in Upshur County, Texas.8 Brothers Alexander and Samuel ABNEY IV purchased a store in the name of Abney and Brother, "Merchants and Traders and Co-partners doing business at Pittsburg..." , from Wright and Beasley on 4 June 1860 in Pittsburg, Upshur County, Texas.10
     Alexander Hamilton ABNEY appeared as head of household on a census enumerated 2 July 1860 in Pittsburg, Upshur County, Texas. The household was listed as (an unknown value).11
     During the Civil War in late 1862 Alexander supplied the Confederate quartmaster in Jefferson, Marion County, Texas with mules, wagons, harnesses, shoes and other leather goods. Afterward Alexander lived in Merlin and then moved to Rockport in 1870. In 1875 he had a biography of the Life and Adventures of L. D. Lafferty published by H. S. Goodspeed. In 1878 he moved to Floresville, Wilson County where he served as county judge in 1880.
     Alexander Hamilton ABNEY died on 3 September 1882 in Lampasas, Lampasas County, Texas, at age 60.12 He was buried in the Oak Hill Cemetery.13
