Cornwall OPC Antony and Torpoint
Antony OPC

Welcome to Online Parish Clerks for Antony,
Torpoint, and Sheviock Cornwall

An OPC should not be confused with a Parish Council appointed Parish Clerk. The term OPC refers to an unpaid volunteer who is willing to help others with their genealogical research. Cornish Online Parish Clerks (OPCs) are volunteers who collect, collate and transcribe records for a chosen specific parish in Cornwall. The data originates from as many sources as can be accessed, including census, parish registers, cemetery records, land tax assessments and parish histories. Cornish Online Parish Clerk volunteers provide information to researchers at no charge. The emphasis is on genealogy, but is not limited to that alone. However, it takes time to transcribe and accumulate material, so an OPC may not yet have full data for all these sources. Any information provided should be used only as a guide rather than being assumed to be 100% accurate.

The OPC Scheme enables individuals to gain by sharing. You are invited to participate in the further evolution of this website (and those of our fellow OPCs) where each person's effort is multiplied by the sum of all similar contributions. This contribution process creates a communal resource of knowledge of unparalled value and establishes a means of collaboration for family historians that was unthinkable prior to the advent of the Internet.

A warning! Although, as an OPC, we may be able to assist with finding information about your family, please bear in mind that our material, by its very nature, comes, at best, from secondary sources like transcriptions and indexes. As such, it is liable to contain errors. That makes us a tertiary source. We entreat you to use any information we may be able to provide only as a guide. If you are serious about your research, it is important that you check the original source. Not only will that verify anything we may find for you, but it may also, in many cases, provide you with additional, valuable facts.

Please bear in mind that we are unable to offer 'blanket' searches for any given surname but will happily look for a specific person, or family, at any given date which is covered by our listed resources. Meanwhile, please return to the parish pages to read to our lists of resources for look ups, and to the list of helpful links, for each of the respective parishes.

Please be patient. we are volunteers with day jobs and and all of life's commitments which interfere with our family history research. There may be times when we are unable to undertake lookups immediately, but will respond your enquiry as soon as we can. Please also take the time to check the links on the parish pages. You may find your information is already online.

You can simply use this website like an one-line encycolpedia but you would short change yourself and others. It is likely that as a user you will find somethng that you would like to see improved, even if it is only a spelling mistake. We welcome corrections as well as critical and constructive comments. Our motto is ...It is better to light a candle than curse the darkness so help us improve our knowledge base by improving it! Each small act of creativity that is shared on a common platform like the OPC scheme will lead to an exponential increase in the shared knowledge available to all users.
