John came to Canada with his brother William about the year 1845 from Oa, Islay Scotland and settled in Seneca Township, Haldimand County Ontario, near the village of Sinclairsville. His farm adjoined that of his brother. In the registered land sales it is recorded that John McLeod bought 100 acres from the crown on April 5, 1851. He is buried in Blackheath Churchyard in Ontario.

Jane was a native of Pensance, Cornwell England and came to Canada in 1844 with her parents, three brothers and four sisters.She is buried in Blackheath Churchyard in Ontario.
