Henry and Emily Shelverton (nee Pickering)
My Great Grandaunt - On My Mother's Side
Henry George Frederick Shelverton, second child of Albert and Margaret Shelverton (nee Briggs), was born c1875 at Richmond, Tasmania, Australia.
Emily Susan Pickering, first child of
Arthur and Clara Pickering (nee Ball), was born on 12 February 1881 at Napier.
It is not yet known when Henry arrived in New Zealand, but in 1909 he and his younger brother, Vivian, obtained land at section 4, block 8 in the Ohura
School District, between Taumarunui and New Plymouth.
Henry, aged 38, and Emily, aged 33, were married on 11 March 1914 at All Saints Church, Palmerston North. Henry's occupation at the time was listed as a farmer and Emily's as domestic duties. Witnesses at the wedding were Emily's brother Ernest and sister Ada.
Emily and Henry did not have any children.
Emily passed away as the result of tuberculosis on 9 September 1915, aged 34, at Ohura.
Henry later moved to Coromandel where he worked as a miner. He did not remarry.
Henry passed away as the result of pneumonia on 23 June 1937, aged 62, at Coromandel Hospital, Coromandel.
