ROBBINS, ORVILLE C. (NO DATE)

Orville C. “Robie” Robbins, 90, Salina, died Sunday, November 14, 1999, at a Salina care center.

He was born March 13, 1909, in Wheaton, the son of Edward and Violet Force Robbins. He lived in Kipp and Onaga before he moved to Salina many years ago. He was a maintenance worker for Pepsi Cola Bottling Company for 20 years before he retired. Earlier he worked for North American Aviation and had received the New Development award for his efforts in the construction of the B-25 airplane.

He was a member of the Grand Avenue United Methodist Church in Salina, the Sunchasers Camp Group and R.S.V.P. Singers.

His wife, Garnette Ballentine Robbins, died in 1985.

Survivors include three sons, Ronald Lee Robbins of Diamond City, Arkansas, Gary Dean Robbins of Wheatland, Wyoming and Edward Ray Robbins of Salina; one daughter, Judith Ann Taddiken of Springfield, Missouri; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services were at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Grand Avenue United Methodist Church in Salina. Burial was in Roselawn Cemetery also in Salina.

RODERICK, SARAH LITLE (NO DATE)

Sarah Litle was born in Franklin County, Indiana, on September 11, 1850, and died at her home in Pottawatomie County, Kansas, on October 2d, 1918, aged 68 years and 21 days. She moved to Illinois with her parents in 1867 where she was married November 17, 1870, to John S. Roderick, they moving to Kansas in 1887.

She was the mother of eight children,, two of whom died in infancy and one died after reaching womanhood. Five are still living as follows: Oscar and William J. of Onaga, Mrs. Bertha Witham of Catesby, Oklahoma, Mrs. Bessie Lefebvre of Onaga, and Mrs. May Powelson, of Hereford, Texas. There are also 16 grandchildren. She was one of a family of ten children, three brothers and two sisters are still living.

She was converted in 1860, being of a Christian family, and was led to decide to live for Christ at an early age, first uniting with the M.P. church, afterwards uniting with the Baptist Church of which she has ever been a faithful, active and consistent member, but for some years, owing to her physical condition, has been deprived of the privilege of church attendance. Her home life as well as church life was dedicated to God, leading all her children into the kingdom. Mr. and Mrs. Roderick finished reading together the book of John in their daily reading the last day she was able to sit up in daily worship. Her interests were with her home and her church, yet she did not forget her neighbors and while able was ready to answer any call where needed. ROSS, MARGARET E. (HANDWRITTEN DATE 1/59)

Mrs. Margaret E. Ross, 77, Junction City, a former resident of Onaga passed away Sunday night in a Topeka hospital. She had gone to Topeka to spend the holidays with her son, Sgt. Stephen W. Ross, and a sister, Mrs. Bertha Stephens.

Mrs. Ross and her family lived in Onaga a number of years and she was very active in the Onaga Chapter O.E.S. of which she was a past Matron.

Besides her son and sister in Topeka, she is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Arlo Berges and Mrs. H. J. McFadden, both of Junction City, and Mrs. Cecil Taylor, LaGrange, Ohio; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Lawrence Devolld, Emmett; and two sisters, Mrs. Lena Kelly, Southgate, California and Mrs. Grace Henning, Great Bend.

Funeral services were at 1 p.m. at Junction City with graveside services and burial at Onaga Cemetery.

ROBINSON, JOHN W. (NO DATE)

Funeral services were held Friday morning, June 28, at 10 o’clock, for Mr. John W. Robinson, 59, principal of St. Paul’s Lutheran school, in the Lutheran church, Duluth, pastor’s Bauer and Middendorf officiating. Memorial services followed Saturday afternoon at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Wilbert, Minnesota, where the body was taken by the Tessendorf Funeral Establishment for burial. The deacons of the congregation served as pall bearers.

John Wesley Robinson, son of the late John and Anne Herpich Robinson, was born on September 5, 1897 in Pittsburg, Pa. He was received into St. John’s Lutheran Church, Pittsburg through Holy Baptism. His father died early and his mother was unable to care for the boy properly, so she placed him in the Concordia Lutheran Orphan’s home at Cabot, Pa. Here he received his Christian elementary training and on March 16, 1913 was confirmed by Pastor Andres at St. Luke’s Lutheran church, Hannahstown, Pa. Because of his abilities and gifts, his desire to become a teacher, he was chosen to attend the Concordia Teachers’ Seminary at River Forest, Ill., to prepare himself for the ministry as a Christian school teacher. At the age of 21 he graduated with honors and received his teacher’s diploma. He taught faithfully at St. John’s Lutheran School, Salem, Ore. for two years.

For 25 years he labored conscientiously and successfully at St. Paul’s Lutheran School, Wilbert, Minn., where he found a good companion in Sophia Sylwester of Gaylord, Minn. They where united in holy wedlock on July 27, 1921 by the Rev. Gade, and the lord blessed them with a fine Christian family of eight children. In 1946 he accepted a call to Bremen Kansas and in the following years took the call our St. Paul’s Lutheran congregation at Duluth extended him, where he rounded out his last 10 years of teaching.

He served the lord in his church for 38 years with humbleness and with great joy. He was conscientious and faithful in his work. He enjoyed the respect of his conference brethren, of young and old I his congregation, and of his many friends in the community. He passed away suddenly on June 25, 1957 at the Community Hospital, Onaga, Kansas of heart failure.

He is survived by his bereaved spouse, Sophie Sylwester, eight children and 19 grandchildren. The children are: Mrs. Irwin Troxell, Sugar Grove, Pa.; Mrs. Leroy ford, Jamestown, N.Y.; Wilbert of Richville Mich.; Mrs. Delmar Heck, Armstrong, Iowa; James, who recently returned from Korea; Mrs. WM. Burnett, Topeka, Kansas; Luther and Wanda of the home in Duluth, Kansas

ROBISON, WILMA LUCILE HARTWICH (NO DATE)

Wilma Lucile Robison, daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Herman Hartwich died Dec. 9, 1980 at Stormont-Vail hospital in Topeka . She was born Oct, 7 1909 near Onaga.

She first worked as a switchboard operator for the telephone company in Onaga, then worked in a beauty shop in Topeka for several years.

She was married to Milton Robison Dec 8, 1936. They moved to Colorado Springs, Colo. And operated a beauty salon until Milton died May 25, 1948.

Mrs. Robison moved back to Topeka to continue her work and later moved back to Onaga where she owned and operated her own shop for about 26 years until ill health forced her to retire.

She is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Rheva Brunkow and Mrs. Grace Kufahl of Topeka and Mrs. Eula Kolterman, Onaga’ seven nieces and nephews and many other relatives.

Funeral services were at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec 13, 1980 at the congregational church in Onaga with the Rev. Dan Mott officiating. Interment was in Onaga Cemetery.

ROGGENKAMP, OTTO J. (WRITTEN DATE 7-24-1975)

Otto J. Roggenkamp, 79, Wheaton, died Tuesday at an Onaga hospital. He had been ill several weeks.

He was born June 17, 1894, at St. Benedict, a few miles north of Seneca in Nemaha County. He spent most of his life in the Wheaton community and was a farmer.

He had been a member of the St. Michael’s Catholic Church at Wheaton. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and received his 50 year pin in November 1971.

He was married June 9, 1920, to Johanna F. Maskil. She died February 21, 1966.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Leona Berges, Onaga, Mrs. Geraldine Keating, Clovis, NM and Mrs. Marjorie Annan, Onaga; four sons, Marcellus Roggenkamp, Lincoln, Joseph Roggenkamp, Onaga and Jerry Roggenkamp and Paul Roggenkamp, both at -----

ROGGENKAMP, FINA (WRITTEN DATE 1966)

Last rites are being held today, Thursday, for Mrs. Fina Roggenkamp of Wheaton at 10 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Wheaton. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Roggenkamp passed away Monday, February 21, at Community Hospital in Onaga after a long illness. She was born October 7, 1897 at Wheaton.

Survivors include her husband Otto, of the home; four sons, Marcellus of Lincoln, Nebraska, Joe of Onaga, Jerry of Vermillion and Paul of the home; three daughters, Mrs. Dale Berges and Mrs. John Annan, both of Onaga and Mrs. Louis Keating of Shawnee Mission; four sisters one brother and 31 grandchildren.

Rosary was recited at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Kufahl’s Funeral Home at Wheaton.

ROLLENHAGEN, ELLA AMELIA (NO DATE)

Final Rites were conducted at 10:30 a.m. on april 21 at Austin Funeral Home for Ella Amelia Rollenhagen. Pastor Gary Bender officiated at the service. Interment was in Hillside Cemetery in Julesburg, Colorado.

Ella was born in Onaga, Kansas on May 19 1889 to August and Minnie Kolterman.

She resided in the Onaga area until her marriage to Carl Rollenhagen, on July 3, 1913. Three children were born to this union, Caroline, Norvin and Shirley.

They moved to Colorado and began farming south of Julesburg. Ella was a resident of the Julesburg area since that time.

Ella died on April 15, 1981.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sisters and two brothers.

Survivors include her children, Caroline Hagemann and Norvin Rollenhagen of Julesburg, and Shirley Marshall of Hopkins, Minnesota; three sisters, Mrs. Theresa Buls of Lincoln, Nebraska, Clara Kolterman and Rreva Kolterman of Onaga, Kansas; four brothers, Leonard Kolterman of Lincoln, Nebraska, Arthur Kolterman of Washington, Kansas; and Otto Kolterman and Chester Kolterman of Onaga, Kansas; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

ROKES, AMY CLARANCE TINSLAR (NO DATE)

Amy Clarance Tinslar was born in Cazenovia, New York on May 22, 1850 and passed away at her home near Onaga, Kansas on April 5, 1944 at the age of 93 years, 10 months and 14 days. She moved with her parents to Illinois at the age of four years, and to Atchison County, Kansas at the age of nineteen years.

On April 16, 1871 she was united in marriage to Albert A. Rokes at Effingham, Kansas. They lived in Brown and Atchison Counties until the year 1882, when they came to live in the vicinity of Onaga. To this union were born nine children, three of whom died in infancy. She leaves to mourn her passing, two sons, John A. of Seattle, Washington and James L. of Ottawa, Kansas; four daughters, Bertha F. Rokes of Kansas City, Missouri; Emma May Rokes of Fort Worth, Texas, Mrs. Lucy Jontra of Howard, Kansas and Sara E. Rokes of the home; also ten grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren together with many nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services were held at the Tessendorf chapel in Onaga on Friday afternoon, conducted by Rev. J. H. Thomas, pastor of the Baptist church. Burial was in the Onaga Cemetery.

Out of town relatives here for the funeral were: Miss Bertha F. Rokes of Kansas City, Mrs. Lucy Jontra and Glen Jontra of Howard, and Mr. and Mrs. James L. Rokes and daughter Eleanore of Ottawa.

ROLLENHAGEN, ESTHER (NO DATE)

Miss Esther Rollenhagen, daughter of Mrs. Marie Rollenhagen, died at the home of her mother near Venango, Nebraska on January 14, 1918. She had been ill for some time but it was thought for awhile that she was going to recover but was suddenly taken with a relapse and passed peacefully away, aged 18 years, 8 months and 27 days. The deceased was born near Wheaton, this county, and a few years ago moved with her parents to Nebraska. She was highly esteemed by a large circle of friends in this locality who will be pained to hear of her untimely death. The following relatives remain to mourn her demise: The mother, a dear old grandmother, six brothers, -- Carl, Walter, Frank, Edwin, Earl, and Raymond, and four sisters – Dorothy, Francis, Mrs. Frank Kolterman, of Duluth, Kansas, and Mrs. Ernest Wegner of this city. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Ernest Drinkgern, both at the home and the German Lutheran church near Venango, and the remains were buried beside those of the father who died about six months ago.

ROLLENHAGEN, HAZEL (WRITTEN DATE 1980)

Services were at 2 p.m. Monday at Stewart Funeral Home, Wamego, for Mrs. Hazel Rollenhagen, 79, Westmoreland, who died Thursday, June 19, at her home.

The daughter of Edward and Oral Ross Nightengale, she was born August 20, 1900 near Centralia and lived in the Onaga and Westmoreland communities most of her life.

Mrs. Rollenhagen taught for seven years at Onaga, Pauline, and Union Star schools before her marriage.

She was married to Walter F. Rollenhagen September 15, 1926, at Wheaton. He died February 2, 1978. She was also preceded in death by a son, Donald Rollenhagen.

She was a member of the Congregational Church at Wheaton.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Zabel of Westmoreland and Mrs. Mary Mayer of Morton, Illinois; a son, Clinton Rollenhagen, Onaga; a sister, Mrs. Mary Schwarz, Onaga; two brothers, Ben Nightengale, Clay Center, and Albert Nightengale, Lebanon, Oregon; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Burial was in the Westmoreland City Cemetery.

ROSE, JOHN M. "JACK" (NO DATE)

John M. (Jack) Rose was born April 3, 1892 in Louisville, Kansas and died November 19, 1974 at Corona, California.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 22, at Grimes Funeral Home in Corona with the Rev. Robert Dekes officiating. Burial was in Sunnyslope Cemetery at Corona.

Jack went to California in the early 30’s after working at Garages in Denver, Colorado. He and his wife, Ethel, operated a store, café, service station and rentals in Corona for 11 years.

He joined Norco Grange 597 in Norco and took an active part holding most offices including Master, for several years. He was also Master of Riverside Pomona Grange No. 31 and took his 7 th Degree in Minnesota.

He was a member of Onaga Odd Fellows Lodge No. 234 and also an associate member of Corona Circle Odd Fellows No. 377 where he served as Noble Grand and held another offices. He was also a member of Rebekah Starlight Lodge No. 231.

He was a member of the riverside County Planning Commission for 20 years, serving as chairman for ten years until he had a heart attack, but was quite active until 1974 when his health failed him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Maggie and Wesley Rose, and two sisters, Lucy and Katherine.

Survivors include his wife, Ethel of Corona; a son, Jack, Jr. of Denver, Colorado; two sisters, Mrs. Jennie Schreiber of Westmoreland, and Mrs. Alberta Wright of Denver, Colorado; three brothers, Dick Rose of Onaga, Harve Rose of Manhattan, and Albert Rose of Louisville; and a number of nieces and nephews.

ROBERTS, GEORGIA K. (NO DATE)

Georgia K. Roberts, 88, Kansas City, Kansas died Tuesday, September 29, 1998 at a Topeka nursing home.

She was born September 21, 1910 at Blaine, the daughter of Henry F. and Katherine Walsh Higgins. She was reared in the Blaine and St. Marys communities and she graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in St. Marys. She lived in Kansas City, Kansas from 1953 until she moved to Topeka in June 1998.

Mrs. Roberts was a dog trainer and breeder. She was a member of the Kansas City Friends of the Library, the German Shepherd Dog Club and the Kansas City Humane Society, and a former 4-H leader.

Survivors include two sons, Richard Roberts Jr., Cambridge, Illinois, and Hank Roberts, Kansas City, Kansas; a sister Ada Keating, Topeka; a brother, Mark Higgins, St. Marys; and nine grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, George Glick, in 1984.

Mass of Christian Burial was at 10 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Marys. Burial was in Mount Cavalry Cemetery at Blaine.

ROBBINS, CLAUDE (Handwritten date 5-3-51)

Word has been received here of the death of Claude Robbins, of Arkansas. Funeral services were held on Sunday, which his brother, Carl Robbins, and family attended. Mr. Robbins resided in this community a good many years ago.

ROBISON, ALONZO GRAFTON (WRITTEN DATE July 7, 1951)

Alonzo Grafton Robison was born on a farm near Parnell, Missouri, November 18, 1878. He departed this life July 3, 1951, after an illness of one day, at the age of 72 years.

He spent his childhood in Missouri. In 1902 he came to Kansas and in 1903 was united in marriage to Lula M. Tunison at Westmoreland, Kansas. To this union were born three sons, Irwin, Kenneth and Milton. Milton preceded him in death, May 25, 1948. The years 1929 to 1943 were spent in Missouri.

Alonzo was a member of the First Baptist Church of Onaga, and the Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife and two sons, Irvin of Onaga and Kenneth of Kansas City, Missouri; one step-son, Clyde Tunison of Gardner; one grandson; two step-grandsons; one step-granddaughter and four step great-grandchildren. He also leaves one brother, William Robison of Smith River, California, and several nieces and nephews.

He was a devoted husband and father, a good neighbor and always willing to help a friend in need. He will be greatly missed by his church, relatives, neighbors and many friends.

Funeral services were held on Friday afternoon at the First Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Earl Caryl. Burial was in the Onaga Cemetery.

The Masonic Lodge had charge of the graveside services. Pallbearers were: Riley Ingalsbe, Rae Thompson, W. J. Loughmiller, G. K. Gibbany, Gene Falkenstien and R. W. Lewis.

Out-of-town relatives attending the Funeral service were: Mrs. Virgil Winemiller and Mrs. Chas. Bednall and son of St. Joseph, Missouri, Mrs. Etta Robbins, Emmett; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Robbins and sons, Havensville; Mr. and Mrs. Will Tanner, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Line and Mrs. Chas. Vamrostran, of Wamego.

ROARK, HARVEY E. (WRITTEN DATE 1984)

Harvey E. Roark, 81, Onaga, died Sunday, November 4 at a nursing home here.

He was an independent truck driver many years, and was employed by Zima Livestock Sales Co. at Emmett 23 years.

Mr. Roark was born March 3o, 1903, at St. Clere in eastern Pottawatomie County. He served in the Army during World War II.

He was a member of the former American Legion post at Emmett.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Barbara Matthews, Onaga; a half-sister, Mrs. Myrtle Johnson, Marquette; two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Graveside services were at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 7, at St. Clere Cemetery, St. Clere. Tessendorf Mortuary, Onaga, was in charge of arrangements.

ROBBINS, WALTER (WRITTEN DATE 5-17-78)

Onaga – Walter Robbins, 90, Onaga, died here Wednesday in a rest home where he had been since last November.

He was born July 28, 1887, near Onaga. He spent most of his life in the Neuchatel community north of Onaga. He moved into Onaga several years ago.

Mr. Robbins was a member of the Congregational Church at Onaga and the Kansas Farm Bureau. He was a director of the Neuchatel Cemetery District. He was a farmer before he retired.

He was married to Ellen Jeanneret February 20, 1907, at Onaga. She survives. A grandson, Stanley Robbins, died about 25 years ago.

A son, Lloyd Robbins, Onaga, also survives.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the Congregational Church at Onaga. Burial will be in Neuchatel Cemetery north of Onaga.

ROLLENHAGEN, WALTER (WRITTEN DATE 2-78)

Funeral services were at 2:00 o’clock Monday afternoon at Stewart Funeral Chapel in Wamego for Mr. Walter Rollenhagen, 85 of rural Westmoreland. Mr. Rollenhagen died Thursday, February 2, at Community Hospital here. He had been a patient at the hospital for the last several weeks.

The son of Franz and Marie Berges Rollenhagen, he was born October 28, 1892 on a farm near Wheaton. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church southeast of Wheaton on April 12, 1908.

He was a farmer and stockman and spent all of his life in the Wheaton and Westmoreland communities.

He was married to Hazel Nightingale on September 15, 1926 at Wheaton. She survives. A son, Donald Rollenhagen, died June 21, 1971.

Other survivors include a son, Clinton Rollenhagen of Onaga; two daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Zabel of Wheaton, and Mrs. Mary Mayer of Morton, Illinois; two brothers, Earl Rollenhagen of Julesburg, Colorado, and Edwin Rollenhagen of Holyoke, Colorado; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Burial was in the Westmoreland Cemetery.

ROBBINS, CARL A. (WRITTEN DATE AUGUST 1996)

Funeral services for Mr. Carl A. Robbins, 73, of rural Havensville, were at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton with burial in the Holton Cemetery. Mrs. Robbins died Thursday at Dechairo Hospital in Westmoreland of an apparent heart attack.

He was born September 19, 1902, at Onaga. He was a farmer and stockman and had lived in the Havensville community since 1940. Prior to that, he had lived eight miles west of Holton for 12 years.

He was a member of the Buck’s Grove United Methodist Church and the Lions Club at Soldier.

On February 17, 1923 he was married to Gladys Graves at Seneca.

Survivors include his widow, of the home; two sons, Dean Robbins and Carl F. Robbins, both of Havensville; a sister, Mrs. Ethel Stuver of Holton; and eight grandchildren.

ROBISON, IRVIN (WRITTEN DATE 5-18 OR 5-24, 1974)

Onaga – Services were today at Tessendorf Mortuary here for Irvin H. Robison, 69, Onaga, who died here Saturday in a hospital where he was admitted Friday. He had been ill several years.

He was born May 11, 1905, in the Laclede community and lived in Pottawatomie County many years.

He was a member of First Congregational Church, Onaga Lodge No. 188, AF&AM, and Onaga Chapter No. 71, Order of Eastern Star, all at Onaga. He was employed by Kansas Power and Light at Onaga from 1933 until 1933 when he retired.

He was married to Gladys Eustis December 4, 1929. She survives.

Other survivors include a brother, Kenneth Robison, Denver, Colorado; and a half-brother, Clyde Tunison, Gardner.

RODERICK, JOHN SMITH (NO DATE)

John Smith Roderick was born in Cashorton County, Ohio May 5, 1844. Later, in the year 1852, he moved with his parents to Lawrence County, Illinois. He was for many years a resident of this city. He died at the home of his son, in Hereford, Texas, December 2, 1925, aged 81 years, 6 months and 28 days.

He enlisted as a private in Company K, 61 st Illinois Volunteer Infantry on December 29, 1863 and served his country through the remainder of the war, being honorably discharged on September 8 th, 1865, at Nashville, Tennessee. He was a member of the Onaga G.A. R. Post.

In September, 1870, he was married to Miss Sarah Lytle, who preceded him in death seven years ago. To this union were born eight children, five of whom are living. They are: Mrs. Allen Powelson, of Hereford, Texas; Mrs. B. D. Witham, of Hollis, Oklahoma, Mrs. Eli Lefebvre, of Onaga; Mr. J.O. Roderick, of Soldier, and Mr. J. W. Roderick, of Redlands, California. Besides these children, he leaves to mourn his departure a number of grandchildren and a host of friends.

He was a Christian from his youth. For many years he was a member of the Baptist Church of this city, but at the time of his death was a member of the Baptist church of Holton. His life was exemplary of upright Christian living. He served his God by serving his fellow men. We are glad that the life of the departed is such that favorable comment can be made concerning his life. But as we speak it is not to help him in any way, but as a matter of respect.

ROSE, JACK D. (NO DATE)

Jack D. Rose, 51, of Kansas City, Missouri died Monday, February 1, 1993, of an apparent heart attack.

He was born February 28, 1941 in Wheaton, Kansas, and spent his early years in Onaga. He was one of ten children born to Albert and Leona Rose. His father preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Joann, of the home; a son, Rodney, Humboldt, Nebraska; a daughter, Kelly, Humboldt, Nebraska; his mother, Leona Rose, Louisville, Kansas; five brothers, Delbert Rose, Falls City, Nebraska, Jim Rose, Onaga, Kansas; Don Rose and Richard Rose, Eudora, Kansas and David Rose, Lee’s Summit, Missouri; four sisters, Alberta Leach, Linwood, Kansas, Carlene Carbaugh, Bonner Springs, Kansas; Jean Lorenzo, Barksdale, Louisiana; and Joan Zoeller, Junction City, Kansas; three grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Burial was Thursday afternoon, February 4 th, in the Humboldt Cemetery.

ROBBINS, ELLEN (Handwritten date March 19, 1980)

Funeral services for Mrs. Ellen Robbins, 91, will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Congregational Church. Burial will be in Neuchatel Cemetery. Mrs. Robbins died early Wednesday morning at Onaga Community Hospital, where she was admitted Tuesday.

She was born January 24, 1889 north of Onaga and lived all of her life in the Onaga and Neuchatel communities.

She was a member of the Congregational Church, Rebekah Lodge, Royal Neighbors and the Congregational Ladies Aid, all in Onaga.

She was married February 20, 1907, to Walter Robbins at Onaga. He died May 17, 1976.

A grandson, Stanley Robbins, died in May 1954.

Survivors include a son, Lloyd Robbins, of Onaga, and one brother, Arthur Jeanneret, Sr., Centralia.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Neuchatel Church or the Congregational Church of Onaga.

ROBBINS, GLADYS (NO DATE)

Mrs. Gladys Robbins, 75, of rural Havensville, died Sunday at Onaga Community Hospital where she had been a patient 11 days, following a stroke.

She was born April 12, 1902. She taught school for 34 years before retirement. She lived in Holton for a time before moving to the Havensville community in 1940. She was a member of the Buck's Grove United Methodist Church.

She was married February 17, 1923 to Carl A. Robbins at Seneca. He preceded her in death on August 5, 1976.

Surviving are two sons, Dean Robbins and Carl F. Robbins, both of rural Havensville; two sisters, Mrs. Essie Cader of Circleville and Mrs. Bessie Coates of Arvada, Colorado; a brother, Cecil Graves of LaCygne and eight grandchildren.

Funeral services were at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Havensville Christian Church with burial in the Holton Cemetery.

ROBBINS, JENETTA E. (Handwritten date 1957)

Jenetta E. Lawrence was born March 14, 1877 at Bird’s Run, Ohio and came to Kansas when 10 years of age. Her girlhood was spent in the Onaga community and she attended school at Fairview, southeast of Onaga. She was baptized in the Baptist Church at Onaga. Her fine Christian training was present throughout her life.

On February 27, 1894 she was united in marriage to Lawrence Robbins at Westmoreland, Kansas. To this union four children were born. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Ethel Stuver of St. Clere and a son, Carl Robbins of Havensville; two brothers, Virgil Lawrence of El Dorado and Lem Lawrence of Lamar, Colorado; three sisters, Mrs. Alvira Meskimen of Omaha, Nebraska, Mrs. Ina Schleuder of Concordia, Kansas and Mrs. Maud Fields of El Dorado, Kansas, seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Her husband, Lawrence, two sons Raymond and Claude, and a sister Grace Lawrence, preceded her in death.

She passed away suddenly on March 24 at the home of her daughter, with whom she had made her home for the past ten years, having reached the age of 80 years and 10 days.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, March 27 at the Mt. Olive Methodist Church. Burial was in the Onaga Cemetery. Rev. Otis Beach, pastor of the Holton Methodist Church, conducted the services. Music barth(?) and Mrs. Lorene Zacharias accompanied by Mrs. Alice Smith at the piano. Two of Mrs. Robbins favorite was furnished by Mrs. Velma Eisen-(?) songs were sung. “The Old Rugged Cross” and “No Night There”. Pallbearers were five grandsons, Dean Robbins, Forrest Robbins, Kenneth Stuver, Charles Wilson, Thayne Stauffer, and one nephew, Allan Meskimmen.

Grandma Robbins, as she was known by young and old, was a wonderful home compani9on, mother and grandmother. She was always cheerful, always looking on the bright side of everything, living from day to day, enjoying every minute of it. She never met a stranger and had encouraging words for everyone. She was very fond of children and had a way of taking them into her confidence and making them feel they were very special.

She was a faithful and willing worker of the church and will be sadly missed by the community and her church. The many flowers and friends present at her funeral bespoke the fond friendship of many who will miss her.

ROBBINS, LLOYD (Handwritten date 1984)

Lloyd Robbins, 76, Onaga, died Thursday, December 6, at an Onaga hospital after a long illness.

Mr. Robbins farmed in the Neuchatel community north of Onaga from 1934 until 1956. He later worked in the maintenance department at East High sChool in Cheyenne, Wyoming before he retired in 1973 and returned to Onaga.

He was born January 3, 1908, near Onaga, the son of Walter and Ellen Jeanneret Robbins, and was graduated from Onaga High School in 1927.

Mr. Robbins was a member of the Congregational Church at Onaga and Pottawatomie County Farm Bureau. He was a former member of the Onaga Park Board. He was an honorary member of the Future Farmers of America chapter at East High School and Fraternal Order of Eagels Aerie No. 28; both at Cheyenne.

He was married to Marcell Mentha December 5, 1934, in Topeka. She survives. A son, Stanley Robbins, died January 28, 1954.

Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Congregational Church in Onaga. Burial was in Neuchatel Cemetery north of Onaga.

ROBERTS, GERTRUDE S. (Handwritten date November 11, 1973)

Mrs. Gertrude S. Roberts, 72, Topeka, died Sunday in a Topeka hospital. She had cancer and had been ill since March.

She was born April 24, 1901 at Onaga, the daughter of Pink and Jessie Witham. She spent many years in the Mission Center community southwest of Topeka.

She was a member of First Baptist Church at Onaga.

Survivors include her husband, Zelora R. Roberts; her step-mother, Mrs. Hazel Witham of Topeka; two brothers, Claude Witham and Leslie Witham, both of Kansas City, Kansas, and Mrs. Ethel Lowe, Tonganoxie.

Funeral services were at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at Wall-Diffenderfer Mortuary in Topeka with burial in Mission Center cemetery.

ROUDYBUSH, OLLIE ELDORA RODGERS (NO DATE)

Mrs. Ollie Roudybush passed away Monday morning, January 28, 1957 and funeral services were held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Duluth, Kansas on Thursday at 2 o’clock, her pastor, the Rev. J. A. E. Bauer, officiating. Interment was at the Onaga Cemetery.

Ollie Eldora Roudybush, nee Rodgers, daughter of Jim and Jane Rodgers, was born July 9, 1879, in Ringola County, Iowa. Her youth was spent in Iowa and there she also received her schooling. In 1896 she was united in marriage to John Watts and this union was blessed with two children. In 1900 her first husband, Mr. Watts, passed away.

In September 21, 1901 Mrs. Watts found another life’s companion in Christopher Columbus Roudybush. They moved to Nebraska in 1904 and lived on a farm. Nine children were born to this union, all of whom are living. In 1921 the Roudybushs moved to Kansas and lived in the Onaga vicinity until 1943 when death took her second husband, Mr. Roudybush.

Mrs. Roudybush and one son, Archie, moved to Duluth, Kansas, where they made their home until recently. In 1952 Mrs. Roudybush and Archie were instructed and received into St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Duluth. For several years she had been in failing health. Her pastor visited her frequently and she was comforted in God’s Word. She died at the Randall hospital in Marysville at the age of 77 years.

She is survived by her four daughters and seven sons: Mrs. Lucille Amann of Oakland, California; Mrs. Jake Wyant of Lincoln, Nebraska; Mrs. Howard Rueger, of Marysville; Verel Watts of Lincoln, Nebraska; Everet Roudybush of Onaga, Dale Roudybush of Marysville; Guy Roudybush of Louisville, Kansas; Ralph Roudybush of Salina, Kansas; Donarld Roudybush of St. George, Kansas; Archie Roudybush of the home; 42 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and many friends. Her parents, five brothers, two sisters and four grandchildren preceded her in death.

ROUDYBUSH, RUTH TEETER (NO DATE)

Mrs. Ruth Roudybush, 62, Louisville, died Tuesday, May 24, 1988, at a manhattan hospital. She had cancer.

She was born June 21, 1925, at Deepwater, Missouri the daughter of John S. and Alice Isabelle Demmery Teeter. She moved from Onaga to Louisville in about 1960.

She was married to Everett C. Roudybush in 1941 at Seneca. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda M. Hensley, Louisville; three sons, Charles E. Roudybush and Gary C. Roudybush, both of Louisville, and Ralph L. Roudybush, Randolph; three sisters, Mary B. Shepherd, Havensville, Josie I. Loney, Phoenix, Arizona and her twin Henrietta A. Smith, Oklahoma City; a brother, John Teeter, deepwater, Missouri; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services were at 10 a.m. Friday, May 27, at Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego. Burial was in Lousville Township Cemetery.

Mrs. Della G. Ross, 102, Havensville, died Sunday, January 28, 1990 at a St. Marys nursing home.

She was born November 16, 1887 in Greenville, West Virginia; the daughter of Henry and Corabelle Tomlinson Peck. She moved with her parents to the Havensville community in October 1911.

She was married to Frank C. Ross of Havensville on May 16, 1917 in Topeka. They farmed north of Havensville many years before they retired in 1948 and moved into Havensville. He died in May 1951.

Survivors include a son, Francis Ross, Havensville; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services were at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 1, at the United Methodist Church in Havensville. Burial was in the Havensville Cemetery.

ROBISON, GLADYS L. (NO DATE)

Mrs Gladys L. Robison, 82, Henderson, Nevada, formerly of Onaga, Kansas, died Wednesday, October 24, 1990, at a Las Vegas nursing home.

Mrs. Robison was a telephone operator for United Telephone System for several years and later was a clerk at Johnson’s Clothing, Gene’s Western Auto and Walt’s IGA and Variety, all in Onaga.

She was born September 13, 1908, at Onaga, the daughter of Samuel and Lydia Schwarz Eustis. She was graduated in 1927 from Onaga High School.

Mrs. Robison was a member of the Congregational Church in Onaga and Onaga Chapter No. 71 Order of Eastern Star.

She was married to Irvin Robison on December 4, 1929 at Olathe. He died in 1974.

Survivors include a sister, Phyllis Gendre, Henderson.

Mrs. Robison was cremated. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 3, at the Congregational Church in Onaga. Inurnment will be in Onaga Cemetery.

ROLLENHAGEN, MARIE BERGES (NO DATE)

Mrs. Marie Rollenhagen nee Berges, was born on the 19 th day of April, 1866, in the village of Itter, state of Hessen, Germany, and was baptized in the name of the Triune God on the 8 th day of the following month at the age of thirteen, after her preliminary instructions in the Lutheran Church. In the year 1882 she emigrated with her parents from Germany. The family then settled on a farm five miles southwest of Onaga, Kansas. On April 29, 1886 she was united in holy wedlock with Franz E. Rollenhagen. For 24 years they made their home at Wheaton, Kansas. Here the Lord blessed them with eleven children. In 1910 they came to Julesborg, Colorado and settled at the present home of the family, sixteen miles southeast of Julesburg. Two years later on July 20, her husband was taken from her in death. In the last years her health has been failing and on Wednesday, November 8, the Lord called her home.

She leaves to mourn her departure six sons: Carl, Frank, Edwin, Earl, Raymond of Julesburg, Colorado and Walter of Onaga, Kansas; three daughters, Mrs. Tracey Wegner of Onaga, Kansas, Mrs. Dorothy Menter of Big Springs, Nebraska; and Mrs. Frances Pebler of Kimball, Nebraska; seven grandchildren; one brother, William Berges of Big Springs, Nebraska and other friends and relatives.

Her husband and two daughters, Esther Rollenhagen and Mrs. Myrtle Kolterman of Duluth, Kansas preceded her in death.

The days of her earthly pilgrimage were sixty-seven years, six months, and twenty days.

After services in the church at Venanga, Nebraska on November 11, the remains were committed to the ground in the Venango Cemetery. Rev. E. W. Scheck, Lutheran pastor of Julesburg, Colorado officiated.

Albert A. Rose, 75, died at his home Thursday, after a long illness.

Rose was an employee of the Union Pacific Railroad for 30 years before his retirement in 1973. He was born near Onaga on May 31, 1908, and married Leona Kenworthy of Wheaton September 9, 1981 in Manhattan.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; six sons, Delbert Rose, Humboldt, Nebraska; Donald Rose, Linwood; Jim Rose, Onaga; Jack Rose, Kansas City, Missouri; Richard Rose, Lawrence; and David Rose, Olathe; four daughters, Mrs. Alberta Leach, Linwood; Mrs. Darlene Carbaugh, Tonganoxie; Jean Lorenzo, Bossier City, Louisiana; and Joann Zoeller, Junction City; two sisters, Mrs. Jennie Schriber, Westmoreland; and Mrs. Alberta Wright, Arvada, Colorado, 31 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Services were at 10 a.m. Monday at Tessendorf Mortuary, Onaga, with burial to follow in Louisville Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association and may be sent to the Tessendorf Mortuary.

Onaga – Richard “Dick” W. Rose, 78, Onaga, died Tuesday at a Westmoreland hospital where he had been a patient 10 days.

He was born November 11, 1900, on a farm near Louisville.

Mr. Rose was a farmer and stockman south of Onaga for 30 years.

He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Jennie Schreiber, Westmoreland, and Mrs. Alberta Wright, Arvada, Colorado; and a brother, Albert Rose, Louisville.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Congregational Church, Onaga. Burial will be in Louisville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church, Westmoreland, in care of the Farmers State Bank, Westmoreland, or Tessendorf Mortuary, Onaga.

ROSE, MARGARET “MAGGIE” (NO DATE)

Mrs. Margaret (Maggie) Rose, 88 years, 11 months and 16 days of age, died at her farm home shortly before noon Wednesday of this week. She had been in ill health for some time and had been making her home with her son, Dick.

In addition to the son at home she is survived by two other sons, Jack of Corona, California, and Albert of Linwood, Kansas; three daughters, Mrs. Katherine Musselman and Alberta Wright both of Denver, Colorado, and Mrs. Jenny Schreiber of Westmoreland; 22 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are not complete as this is being written, pending the arrival of the children. Burial will be in Louisville cemetery in the family lot.

ROSENFIELD, ROBERT J. (Handwritten date JUNE 4, 1988)

Onaga – Robert J. Rosenfield, 31 Onaga, died Wednesday in a Junction City care center.

He was injured in an automobile accident east of Topeka in November 1975 and had been hospitalized since.

He was born September 22, 1948 in Junction City and attended Onaga schools.

Mr. Rosenfield joined the Navy after high school graduation and served to tours of duty in the Vietnam theater.

He was a member of Onaga Junior Chamber of Commerce, Congregational Church and Onaga Memorial Post No. 7772, all of Onaga.

Survivors include his father, Richard J. Rosenfield, Onaga; a sister, Mrs. Becky Householder, Lamar, Missouri; and his grandmother, Mrs. Ruth Dumier, Great Bend.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Tessendorf Mortuary, Onaga. Burial will be in Onaga Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Robert J. Rosenfield memorial fund for the Onaga Jaycees’ Park Project to be dedicated Rob Rosenfield Park Sunday.

ROSENFIELD, WANDA (Handwritten date November 22, 1975)

Mrs. Richard (Wanda) Rosenfield, 48, was killed in a three-car smashup on the Kansas Turnpike about three miles east of Topeka about 11:00 a.m. last Saturday. Mr. Rosenfield, 53, suffered a smashed hip and facial injuries and is a patient at Stormont-Vail. The Rosenfields’ son, Robert, 27, remains a patient at Stormont, in intensive care. He received broken leg and arm bones, a severe head injury, and remains in critical condition.

The Rosenfields were en route to the KU-MU football game at Lawrence, when a westbound vehicle pulling a trailer, crossed the median strip into the path of the eastbound Rosenfield car. The couple in the other vehicle perished in the crash. The trailer broke loose and a third vehicle smashed in it, but the occupants of that vehicle were uninjured.

Services for Mrs. Rosenfield were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock at the Congregational Church in Onaga, with burial in Onaga Cemetery.

She was born September 16, 1927, at Larned and spent her childhood there. She attended Kansas University and was affiliated with Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She had been a resident of Onaga for more than 25 years, and was a member of the Congregational Church.

Survivors in addition to her husband and son, are a daughter, Mrs. Leland (Becky) Householder, Liberty, Missouri, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Dumler, Great Bend, and a granddaughter.

ROTHERS, DOROTHY MAY (Handwritten date 1982)

Services Held Saturday For Dorothy Rothers – Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothy May Rothers, 68, of Havensville were at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 29, at the Havensville Christian Church. Memorial services were also held Friday evening at Tessendorf Mortuary in Onaga.

Mrs. Rothers died Thursday, May 27, at a Topeka hospital where she had been a patient for several weeks.

The daughter of Henry Everett and Bessie Webster, she was born May 16, 1914 at Havensville and attended Havensville grade and high schools. She was a Girl Scout, Y-Teen and 4-H leader for many years and was also active in a number of other community projects.

She was married September 25, 1935, to Larry Rothers at Havensville.

Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Treva Martin of Silver Lake, a son, LeWayne Rothers of Olathe; and ten grandchildren.

ROUDYBUSH, CHARLES EVERETT (Handwritten date 1983)

Charles Everett Roudybush, 77, Louisville, died Thursday, June 30, at his home.

The son of Christopher and Ollie Rogers Roudybush, he was born December 23, 1905 in Antelope County, Nebraska.

Mr. Roudybush was a mechanic and salvage yard operator for many years in Onaga, Havensville, Belvue, Wamego and Louisville.

He was married to Ruth Teter on May 19, 1941 at Havensville. She survives.

Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Linda Marie Parker, Louisville; three sons, Charles E. Roudybush and Gary C. Roudybush, both of Louisville, and Ralph L. Roudybush, St. George; two sisters, Mrs. Violet Foley, Marysville, and Mrs. Marie Wyant, Lincoln, Nebraska; four brothers, Guy Roudybush, Louisville, Dale Roudybush, Marysville, Ralph Roudybush, Salina, and Donald Roudybush, St. George; and eight grandchildren.

Services were at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 2, at Tessendorf Mortuary in Onaga. Burial was in Onaga Cemetery.

RYAN, ETHEL (Handwritten date 1967)

It is decreed that death must come to all and it came to Ethel Ryan at the age of 74 years, one month and 26 days on Saturday, February 11 at 6:05 a.m. at the Community Hospital. She had been in ill health for several years but had been in the hospital only two days. She returned to Onaga last February to make her home after having spent the past ten years on the west coast, in California and Oregon.

Born December 15, 1892, at Garrison, Kansas, she lived most of her life near Manhattan until 1940 when she and her family moved to Onaga. She was a member of the Christian Church and was a Past Worthy Matron of Onaga Chapter No. 71, Order of Eastern Star.

In 1913 she was married to Harry Ryan, who preceded her in death in 1954.

She is survived by four children, Mrs. Iris McBurney of Kansas City, Kansas, Mrs. Merle Coffey of Santa Ana, California, Mrs. Roger Force of Wheaton and the Rev. Philip Ryan of John Day, Oregon, a sister, Mrs. Anna Ryan of Independence, Missouri; a brother, Glen Weaver of Wichita; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Memorial services were held at 1:30 Monday afternoon, February 13, at the Congregational Church in Onaga with the Rev. R. E. Williams officiating. Burial was in Sunset Cemetery, Manhattan.

Pallbearers were Edwin Kufahl, Chet Honig, Cecil Kolterman, Wm. Falk, Damien Elder and Floyd Gendre.

ROBBINS, MYRON F. (NO DATE)

Myron F. Robbins was born August 10, 1901, at Wheaton, Kansas, and departed this life Saturday afternoon, March 19, 1949 at his home in Leoti, Kansas at the age of 47 years, 7 months and 9 days.

Early in life, Mr. Robbins decided on a business career. With that in mind, he entered Business College at Lawrence. Following graduation, he obtained a position in the First National Bank at Scott City where he served a total of 25 years. In 1929 he accepted a position with the First National Bank of Loveland, Colorado where he served until 1931 at which time he returned to Scott City. In 1941 he continued his activities with the National Bank of Loveland, but the year following in 1942, he came to Leoti as cashier of the First State Bank. In this capacity he served until he opened his own insurance office in Leoti, which he successfully operated until his death.

He was united in marriage to Gladys Wikoff of Leoti on September 4, 1928. To this union were born two sons and one daughter, Robert B, Patty Joe and Richard J. Patty Joe died in infancy.

Mr. Robbins was interested in affairs other than his business interests. In 1938 he was elected to the Kansas State Legislature from Scott county, serving two terns. In Leoti he was a member of the City Council for two terms. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Lions Club, and the Rotary Club. At the age of 13 he united with the Congregational Church of Wheaton, later transferring his membership to Scott City First Methodist Church and finally to the First Methodist Church of Leoti.

He is survived by his wife and two sons; his mother, Mrs. Violet Robbins of Denver, Colorado; a sister, Mrs. Mary Knaus of Russell; two brothers, Orville Robbins of Onaga, and Clarence Robbins of Dallas, Texas. His father preceded him in death in 1941.

Mr. Robbins had many friends whos3e hearts are saddened and whose sympathy is most graciously extended to the sorrowing ones in this hour of bereavement. – The Leoti Standard.

ROBBINS, STANLEY (Handwritten date 27 January 1954)

Car Crash Fatal To Youth – A tragic and fatal accident occurred late last night when a young man lost his life in a car accident.

Stanley Robbins, 19-year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Robbins, was fatally injured when his car overturned on the corner north of town at the intersection of the Havensville and county road going north. Stanley was alone, returning home from the dance at the Yellow Lantern. He was brought to the Onaga hospital, where he passed away at 6:30 o’clock this morning from a brain hemorrhage. His car was completely demolished after turning over several times.

Stanley graduated from the Centralia High School with the class of 1953. His sorrowing parents have the sympathy of the community.

Funeral arrangements will be made of the Tessendorf Mortuary.

ROBISON, LULU MARGARET (NO DATE)

Lulu Margaret, daughter of William Daniel and Margaret Bell Robbins, was born July 26, 1880, near Wheaton, Kansas and passed away at the Onaga hospital on November 23, 1952 at the age of 72 years, 3 months, and 29 days. She spent her entire life around Onaga with the exception of a few years in Sheridan, Missouri.

In 1896 she was united in marriage to Clark Tunison and one son, Clyde was born to this union. In 1903 she was united in marriage to Alonzo G. Robison and to this union were born three sons, Irvin of Onaga, Kenneth of Wichita, and Milton, who passed away on May 25, 1948. Her husband was called to rest on July 3, 1951. Besides her sons and their wives, she is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Mae Blew of Amboy, Washington, Mrs. Mary Tanner of Wamego, and Mrs. Kathryn Coughlin of Richmond, Virginia; two brothers, C. C. Robbins of Seneca and Walter Robbins of Onaga; three brothers preceded her in death. Also surviving are her four grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Onaga and worked diligently and untiringly in a sincere effort to do her part. She was initiated into the Order of Eastern Star in Sheridan, Missouri, and is a Past Matron of that chapter. Later she transferred her membership to Onaga chapter, and remained a faithful and active member until her death. She spent much of her time during her retiring years reading the Bible and preparing herself for the time when the call should come to meet her savior. She enjoyed meeting people and developed close and lasting friendship with whom she was associated. Her jovial nature made it a joy to know her and a heartache in her passing.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock at the First Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Onaga Cemetery.

ROLLENHAGEN, DONALD EDWIN (NO DATE)

Donald Edwin Rollenhagen, 31, was born April 25, 1940 at Onaga and lived most of his life in the Westmoreland community. He was a truck driver and operated his own truck service.

He is survived by his wife, the former Judy Brunkow of Onaga to whom he was married in 1966; two small sons, Charles and Stanley Rollenhagen, both of the home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter F. Rollenhagen of Westmoreland, a brother Clinton Rollenhagen, Onaga; and two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Zabel, Wheaton, and Mrs. Mary Mayer, Geneva, Switzerland.

Services will be at 2 o’clock today (Thursday) at the Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego with burial in the Westmoreland Cemetery.

RYAN, HARRY JAMES (Handwritten date 1954)

It is decreed that death must come to all men, and it came to Harry James Ryan on Sunday, January 3 rd at 1:30 p.m. after an illness of four weeks, at the age of 62 years, 2 mos. And 3 days. He was born near Manhattan, Kansas, October 31, 1891 and lived around Manhattan all his life until he moved to Onaga in 1940. He was the eldest son of Mr. and ***May (Stagg) Ryan. His father, mother, two brothers and one half-brother preceded him in death.

In 1913 he was united in marriage to Ethel Weaver and four children were born to this union, all of whom survive. He was a kind, loving and understanding husband and father, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

His widow, Ethel, of the home, Iris McBurney of Kansas City, Rev. Philip Ryan of Elkton, Oregon, Mrs. Merle Coffey of Los Angeles, Mrs. Joy Makin of the home, and the grandchildren, A-2c Larry McBurney of Albuquerque New Mexico, Lois and Dickie Jo Coffey of Elkton, Oregon, and Sherry Jo Makin of the home, will miss him very much.

Tuesday, following services at the Congregational Church in Onaga, with Rev. Millard Marshall officiating, he was laid to rest in Sunset Cemetery at Manhattan, with graveside services. Pallbearers were Edwin Kufahl, Cecil Kolterman, Chester Honig, William Falk, Emile Cass and Damien Elder.

ROTHERS, FERN (NO DATE)

Fern Rothers, 87, Onaga, died Thursday, January 6, 1994, at an Onaga hospital.

She was born August 17, 1906, on a farm north of Onaga, the daughter of Charles and Estella Jane McDevitt Kelly.

Mrs. Rothers was a charter member of Arthur L. Mills Unit No. 37 of the American Legion Auxiliary in Corning.

She married Phil Rothers August 21, 1931, at Holton. He survives.

Other survivors include a daughter, Karren Nix, LaMonte, Missouri; four sons, Dean Rothers, Denver, Cecil Rothers, Topeka, Kenneth Rothers, Corning, and Darrell Rothers, Vian, Oklahome; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services were held January 10 in the United Methodist Church in Corning. Burial was in Corning Cemetery north of Corning. Tessendorf Mortuary in Onaga was in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Nemaha County Training Center in Seneca or Golden Acres Activity Fund in care of the mortuary.

ROTHERS, LAWRENCE H. (NO DATE)

Lawrence H. Rothers, 89, Havensville, died Thursday, August 21, 1997, at Golden Acres Nursing Home in Onaga.

Mr. Rothers owned and operated Larry’s service in Havensville from 1941 until 1973. he had served as a city council member, mayor, and fire chief of Havensville.

He was born August 19, 1908, in the Coal Creek Community north of Onaga, the son of Bernard H. and Theresa Nolte Rothers.

Mr. Rothers coached Little League baseball in Havensville and was a member of the Havensville Lions Club.

He married Dorothy May Heath on September 25, 1935, at Wheaton. She died May 27, 1982.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Phil Rothers and Alvis Rothers.

Survivors include a son, LeWayne Rothers, Olathe; and daughter, Treva Martin, Silver Lake; a sister, Mary Ward, Topeka; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial was at 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 25, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Onaga. Burial was in the Havensville Cemetery.

Tessendorf-Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Onaga was in charge of arrangements.

ROBBINS, EUGENE NOBLE (NO DATE)

Eugene Noble Robbins, son of Cora L. and C. C. Robbins, was born November 5, 1899 at Onaga, Kansas, and passed away at St. Marys, Kansas on April 15, 1953 at the age of 53 years, 5 months, and 10 days, after being in ill health for many years. He spent his entire life near Onaga and Centralia, with the exception of one year in White Salmon, Washington.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, and is survived by two brothers and one sister, Ross of St. Marys, Kansas, Lester and Lucille Wells, of Wichita, Kansas, one brother-in-law, Clarence Wells, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday morning at the Tessendorf chapel in charge of Rev. Roten. Burial was in the Neuchatel cemetery.

ROBBINS, CORA NOBLE (NO DATE)

Mrs. Cora Robbins passed away at the family home in the Neuchatel neighborhood on September 15, 1942 at the age of 63 years, 11 months and 5 days. She was a daughter of Jordan and Mattie Calvert Noble and was born on October 10, 1878 at Neuchatel on the Noble homestead, one of nine children, all of whom preceded her in death. She spent her entire life in that community with the exception of one year spent in the state of Washington.

She was married on February 3, 1899 to C. C. Robbins and to this union were born four children; Eugene of the home, Lester of Sidney, Nebraska, Ross of St. Marys, and Lucille Wells of Wichita, all of whom are left with her husband to mourn her departure.

Mrs. Robbins was a student of the International Bible Student’s Association and an ardent worker on this school of thought for many years. She was a devoted mother and friend of all in the neighborhood.

She also leaves to mourn her passing her step-mother, Mrs. Anna Mae Noble, a step-brother, Norman Noble, both of Sheylan, West Virginia, and a number of nephews, nieces and friends.

Funeral services were held in the Tessendorf Chapel on Thursday afternoon in charge of Rev. J. W. Chelander of Randolph. Burial was in the Neuchatel Cemetery.
