Havensville –Everett “Bud” Flaherty, Havensville, died Monday, April 6, 1998, at an Onaga nursing home.
Mr. Flaherty was a farmer and stockman. He also worked for C. C. and M. Construction Co. in Topeka.
He was born September 19, 1907, in the Coal Creek community, the son of John and Catherine Grojhan Flaherty. He attended Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School in Seneca.
Mr. Flaherty was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Onaga and a former member of Coal Creek Catholic Church.
He was married to Marie K. Bauer on March 4, 1946, at Coal Creek. She survives.
Other survivors include three daughters, Carroll L. Gudenkauf, Onaga, and Marilyn A. Faunce and Kathleen M. Flaherty, both of Topeka; two sisters, Anne Flaherty and Mary Flaherty, both of Kansas City, MO; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at Tessendorf Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Onaga, where visitation will follow a rosary recited at 7 p.m. today.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Coal Creek Cemetery Fund and sent in care of the funeral home.
Onaga – Gladys H. Florence, 81, Onaga, died Thursday, February 3, 2000, at an Onaga nursing home.
Mrs. Florence worked for Myers Publishing Co. in Topeka for several years and was an Avon representative in Shawnee for many years.
She was born February 5, 1918, near Onaga, the daughter of Frank and Lena Wrosch Ristow. She graduated from Onaga High School in 1937.
Mrs. Florence was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Duluth, and the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League at the church. She also helped organize and was a member of the Onaga Senior Center.
She married Basil Florence on January 6, 1949, in Topeka. He died November 4, 1987.
Survivors include a stepdaughter, Vickie Holder, Longmont, CO; three sisters, Viola Wienstroer and Iverna Most, both of Onaga, and Audrey Maupin, Silver Lake; four stepgrandchildren; and eight step-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Duluth. Burial will be in Onaga Cemetery. Mrs. Florence will lie in state until noon Saturday at the Tessendorf-Chapel.
Wilhelmina Marie Hetzler, daughter of William and Marie Hetzler, was born March 20, 1876 in Minden, Germany. When in infancy she was baptized in the name of the Triune God. At the age of 11 years she came to America with her parents, three brothers and two sisters. On March 30, 1890 she was confirmed in the Lutheran Church by the Rev. Adolph Schmidt.
On September 2, 1895, she was united in holy matrimony with John Knipp. After only ten months Mr. Knipp passed away. The young widow was comforted by the birth of a daughter, Hedwig, who preceded her mother in death on October 17, 1964. Later, on February 19, 1809 Minnie was united in holy wedlock with Carl Figge. This union was blessed with four children: two sons Carl and Walter, and two daughters, Adele and Ella. Mr. Figge passed away September 8, 1928.
They had lived on a farm southwest of Onaga where Mrs. Figge continued to make her home until in March of 1940 when she moved to Onaga. Mrs. Figge was a life-long member of the Lutheran Church; first at St. Luke’s in Wheaton, and later St. Paul’s in Duluth.
Mrs. Figge became ill in August 1962 and became an invalid by strokes. Since then she was cared for by her children; first in their homes, and as her helplessness increases she was cared for in the Golden Acres Nursing Home in Onaga and Haven of Rest in Wamego. Mrs. Figge passed away January 5, 1966 in Genn hospital, Wamego, at the age of 89 years, nine months and 16 days.
She leaves to mourn her passing her children: Carl of Topeka, Walter of Wheaton, Mrs. Adele Honig of Wheaton and Mrs. Ella Kafel of St. Paul, Minn., one brother, Fred Hetzler of Wheaton; one sister, Mrs. Lena Deering of Loveland CO, 16 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Duluth, on January 7 with the Rev. J. W. A. Becker in charge. Burial was in St. Luke’s Cemetery at Wheaton.
William A. Florence, 86 years old, passed away February 18 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. H. B. Berry, in Kansas City, Missouri. His home had been in Onaga for the past 30 years. Mr. Florence had been in ill health for the past year.
Survivors include three sons, Clarence F. of Onaga, Basil F. of Shawnee, Kansas and Edgar of Yakima, Washington; two daughters, Mrs. H. B. Berry, Kansas City, Missouri and Mrs. Edith Swickard, Mission, Kansas; one sister, Mrs. J. O. Carlson, Vermillion, Kansas; four brothers, George of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Fred of Baldwin, Kansas, Claude of Vermillion, Kansas and Frank of Independence, Missouri; nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and a host of friends. Mrs. Mattie Florence, his wife, and two sons, Ray and Olen, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at the Congregational Church in Onaga, Saturday, February 21 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be in Onaga Cemetery.
Walter Emery Force was born August 13, 1872, of the union of Jacob R. Force and Sarah Maskil-Force, of Wheaton. He died of post-operative pneumonia at Wamego, April 2, 1926, at the age of 53 years, 7 months and 19 days.
He united with the Congregational Church of Wheaton at the age of 16 years and he was always one of its staunchest and truest members. He was united in marriage with Myrtle M. Crice, February 17, 1894. Five children were born to this union, Resiah, of Wheaton; Russel, of Wellington; Eunice, who passed away August 24, 1923; and Marian and George, of Wheaton. Their mother, Myrtle Force passed away October 9, 1919.
On August 24, 1922, Mr. Force was united in marriage with Grace Wilson-Toothaker. He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, Mrs. Force; Resiah, Russel, Marian and George, and a stepdaughter, Lolita Toothaker. He is survived by his father, Jacob R. Force, his sister, Mrs. Mary Robbins of Wheaton; four brothers, J. S. Force, of Luray; James R. Force, of White River, SD, Guy Force, of Kansas City, and Wallace Force, of Miltonvale. There are many other relatives and a community of friends who will sadly miss this loved one.
Mrs. Florence May Flowers, 87, Onaga, died Friday, December 29, 1989, at Golden Acres Nursing Home in Onaga.
Mrs. Flowers assisted her husband in the Havensville Post Office while he was postmaster.
She was born July 17, 1902, at Savannah, west of Havensville, the daughter of Hugh and Laura Hamer Rawlings. She lived most of her life in the Havensville community until she moved to Prairie View Apartments in Onaga seven years ago. She recently had moved to Golden Acres Nursing Home in Onaga.
Mrs. Flowers was a life member of the Christian Church in Havensville and the Ladies Aid at the church.
She was married to William T. Flowers, January 19,1921, at Havensville. He died July 13, 1966.
Survivors include two sons, Sheldon Flowers, Cincinnati, Ohio, and Lloyd Flowers, Onaga; two sisters, Sue Humphrey, St. Joseph, MO, and Violet Dodds, Onaga; six grandchildren; a dn14 great-grandchildren.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 2, at Havensville. Burial was in Havensville Cemetery.
Mrs. Nonavee I. Fordham, 75, Havensville, died Sunday, July 21, 1991, at Onaga Community Hospital after she collapsed outside an Onaga café on Leonard Street in Onaga.
She was born May 17, 1916, in Havensville, the daughter of Nebraska and Emma Heathman Renberger. She was graduated from Havensville High School in 1934 and spent her life in the Havensville community.
She was a member of the Havensville Christian Church where she served as Sunday School superintendent, and was a member of NJP Extension Unit and past president of Young Women’s Christian Association. She was a former member of the Order of Eastern Star at Havensville.
She was married to Dave T. Fordham on January 8, 1936, in Havensville. He survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Marilyn Robbins, Havensville, and Karen Gay, Parkville, MO; six grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
Services were at 10 a.m. today, Thursday, at the Christian Church in Havensville with burial in Havensville Cemetery.

Dale A. Flowers, 68, rural Havensville, died Friday, February 1, 1991, at Onaga Community Hospital.
Mr. Flowers was a bus driver for the Havensville school district several years.
He was born January 16, 1923, on a farm near Havensville, the son of Albert and Merle Lederer Flowers. He attended Havensville area schools and was graduated from Havensville High School in 1941.
Mr. flowers was treasurer of the Grant Township Board.
Survivors include two sisters, Donis Manuel, Havensville, and Della May Smith, Meriden; and a brother, Delbert Flowers, Havensville.
Services were at 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 4, in the Christian Church at Havensville. Burial was in Havensville Cemetery.
Laura Miller Fisher, 71, Topeka, died Tuesday, February 9, 1993, at her home.
Mrs. Fisher worked at the Menninger Foundation, where she was involved with fund raising for the foundation. She also was Dr. Karl Menninger’s secretary for many years.
She was born April 19, 1921, in Onaga, the daughter of Maxmillian Alexander and Alice Myers Green Miller, and graduated from Onaga High School. She moved to Topeka in 1939.
Survivors include a daughter, Josena Stefan, Houston, Texas; a son, Conrad Fisher, Topeka; a brother Max Miller, Manhattan; and two grandchildren.
Direct cremation took place. No memorial services were held. Inurnment is pending.
Roger R. Force, 62, Wheaton, died Sunday, September 9, 1990, at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka where he had been a patient for several weeks. He had cancer.
The son of Frank g. and Iva Ruth Day Force, he was born June 26, 1928, at Wheaton and spent his life there.
Mr. Force operated the Force Truck Line from 1946 to 1959 and served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952. He was a rural letter carrier and past president of the Kansas Rural Letter Carriers’ Association, retiring from the postal service in 1989. Mr. Force was vice-president of the board of directors of the Blue Valley Telephone Company; a member of Onaga Lodge AF&AM 188, and Order of Eastern Star Chapter, 71, both in Onaga. He was a member and chairman of the board of Wheaton Congregational Church cemetery board. He served for many years as mayor of Wheaton and was a member of the Wheaton Volunteer Fire Department.
He was married to Joy Ryan on February 27, 1954, in Onaga. She survives.
Other survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Sheryl and Daryl Force, Wheaton, and Kay and Rick Umscheid, Blue Springs, MO; a son and wife, Terry and Amy Force, Wheaton; a sister, Margery Keating, Topeka; and six grandchildren.
A granddaughter, Becky Force, preceded him in death in 1982.
Services were at 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 12, at the Wheaton Congregational Church, with burial in the Wheaton Congregational Cemetery. Services were conducted by the Rev. Donald Gibson.
Ivan Farmer Force, 89, formerly of Topeka, died Monday, July 10, 1995, at his home in Mesa, AZ.
Mr. Force worked for city Service Oil Co. in Topeka for about 18 years and then for the Aranco Oil Co. in Saudi Arabia for 15 years until 1962. He later drove a school bus in Boulder, CO.
He was born March 4, 1906, in Wheaton, the son of Farmer and Esther Covil Force. He was reared in Scott City and moved to Topeka in the 1920’s. He moved to Mesa, AZ, in 1972.
Mr. Force was a member of Velda Rose United Methodist Church in Mesa. He was a 50-year Mason in Albion, IL.
He was married to Doris L. Weisner in February 1955. She survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Saralie Palmer, Derby, and Edith Mahan, Oakwood Hills, IL; a son, Gordon Force, San Jose, CA; a sister, Violet Thornton, Augusta; a brother, Dale Force, Rock Springs, WY; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Masonic graveside services were at 11 a.m. Saturday July 15, at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Herbert E. Force was born in Illinois, on January 19, 1858, and died at Onaga, Kansas, December 17, 1917, at the age of 69 years, 10 months and 28 days.
He came to Kansas in 1871, and settled on a farm one mile south of Wheaton, being one of the early settlers of this locality. On December 7, 1882 he was united in marriage to Miss Ella Grof, who died September 7, 1923. To this union were born six children, all of whom are still living. They are: Mrs. Ruth Bushey, Mr. Ray Force, Mr. Frank Force, and Mrs. Esther Henneberg, all of Wheaton, KS; Mrs. Lulu McCarty of Oneida, Kansas and Mr. Lloyd Force, of Kansas City, MO.
About sixteen years ago the deceased retired from farming and moved to Wheaton. On December 31, 1924 he was married to Miss Nettie Garret and about a year ago they moved to Onaga, where he lived until the time of his death.
Mr. Force was a member of the Congregational Church. Besides his wife and children, there are left to mourn his loss, two sisters, three brothers, fourteen grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
The funeral service [was held at] the Congregational Church of Wheaton in charge of Rev. James W. Cone, of Onaga, assisted by the Rev. M. Corlin, of Wheaton. Interment was in the family lot at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
James Fitzpatrick, 84, Onaga, died Thursday, December 27, 1990, at Onaga Community Hospital.
Mr. Fitzpatrick farmed northeast of Onaga.
He was born January 21, 1906, at Leavenworth, the son of Frank and Anna Killiloy Baskas, and was orphaned at an early age.
He later was sponsored by a Mr. Fitzpatrick, a farmer northeast of Onaga, who brought the boy from a Kansas City orphanage. The boy worked several years for his sponsor and took his sponsor’s name.
His sponsor had willed his farm to several relatives and after his death James Fitzpatrick remained on the farm and eventually bought out the relatives.
Mr. Fitzpatrick was a member of St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church at Onaga.
Several nieces and nephews survive.
Mass of Christian Burial was at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 29; at St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church at Onaga. Burial was in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in the Coal Creek community north of Onaga. A rosary was recited at 7:00 p.m. Friday at the church.
Edward Fitzpatrick passed away at the home of his sister, Mrs. George Becker, last Monday, at the age of 76 years, 10 months and 10 days. He was born in Chicago, IL on April 16, 1863.
Mr. Fitzpatrick resided most of his life in the Coal Creek community and for the past few years had made his home with the Becker family. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Geo. Becker, and Mrs. Anthony Burke of Kansas City, KS.
Funeral services were held at the Coal Creek church yesterday morning.
William Ray Flinn, 73, Onaga, died March 22, 1988, at St. Francis regional Medical Center in Topeka.
The son of Peter R. and Elsie M. Nichlas Flinn, he was born October 7, 1914 at Laclede, KS. He attended the Eureka Grade School for eight years and graduated from Onaga High School with the class of 1932.
Mr. Flinn served on the school board of the Eureka Grade School. He was a member of the Laclede Baptist Church and served as the church treasurer for several years.
He was a farmer.
Survivors include a brother, George Flinn, Onaga, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at the Onaga First Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, march 26. Burial will be in the Onaga Cemetery.
Memorials may be made in favor of the Onaga Senior Citizens, the Laclede Baptist Church or the First Baptist Church of Onaga.

William Ray Flinn, 73, Onaga died Tuesday, March 22, 1988, in a Topeka hospital.
He was born October 7, 1914, at Laclede, son of Peter R. and Elsie M. Nichlas Flinn. He attended Onaga schools and graduated from Onaga High School in 1932.
He was a farmer in the Onaga area most of his life. Mr. Flinn had been a member of the Eureka Grade School board of education and was a member and past treasurer of the Laclede Baptist Church.
A brother, George Flinn, Onaga, survives.
Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church, Onaga. Burial was in Onaga Cemetery.
Mrs. Martha C. Fleckenstein, 80, a resident of Shawnee Gardens Nursing Home, Shawnee, Kansas, died Friday, January 24, 1992, at the nursing home.
She was born May 2, 1991 at Herndon, KS, a daughter of John and Anna Kundinger Leitner. She attended Herndon schools and graduated from Herndon High School in 1928.
She was married to Charles S. Fleckenstein of Herndon in 1928. He died March 5, 1986. After his completion of medical studies, they moved to Onaga where they made their home until their retirement in 1976.
She was a member of the Onaga Congregational Church UCC; and a life member of Chapter No. 71, Order of Eastern Star in Onaga.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Jean Temple, Overland Park, and Mrs. Dottie Purge, Kansas City, KS; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Protest, Oberlin, Mrs. Emma Oaken, Puyallup, WA, Louise Leitner, New York City, and Mrs. Freda Martin, Buckley, WA; two brothers, George Leitner, Mt. Vernon, WA, and Eddy Leitner, Oberlin.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 1, at the Onaga Congregational Church. Burial will be in the Onaga Cemetery. Mrs. Fleckenstein’s casket will remain closed.
Memorials may be made in favor of the Congregational Church of Onaga and left at Tessendorf Mortuary.
Memorial services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 14, at Stewart Funeral Chapel in Westmoreland for Lura Elizabeth Force, 96, Westmoreland. She died Wednesday, June 8, 1994, at a Westmoreland nursing home.
Mrs. Force farmed with her husband in the Westmoreland area.
She was born March 17, 1898, in Wheaton, the daughter of Wardell and Lily Gertrude Force Tunison. She was a life-long resident of the area.
Mrs. Force was a member of the Congregational Church in Wheaton and the Frankfort Chapter of Royal Neighbors of America.
She was married to Resiah Melvin Force in May 1918, in Wheaton. He died in 1970. She also was preceded in death by a daughter and three sons.
Survivors include a son, Myron d. Force, Wheaton; two daughters, Cora M. Berg, Blaine, and Alice Brisbin, Elk River, MN; a sister, Thelma Poore, Lenexa; 23 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and nine great great grandchildren.
Inurnment in the Congregational Cemetery in Wheaton was private.
Mrs. Tressie P. Florence, 87, of Onaga, KS, died Wednesday, June 2, 1993, at Community Hospital in Onaga.
She was born February 21, 1906, at Westmoreland, a daughter of Thomas P. and Etta A. McDervitt Burdette. She grew up in the Onaga area, attending Rocky Scrabble and Highland rural schools, graduating from Onaga High School with the class of 1925.
She was a teacher in a rural school north of Onaga, known as the Sunflower school. She was later employed by the Eshbaugh Mercantile Company in Emmett, Kansas.
She married Clarence Florence of Onaga on April 3, 1929, at Holton, KS. He died September 10, 1985.
At the time of their marriage, her husband was an employee of Union Pacific Railroad Company and Mrs. Florence was cook for the railroad group with whom he worded. They made their home in a railroad bunk car where they raised their early family. They later moved to Havensville, and to Onaga in 1934.
Mrs. Florence was a member of the Onaga Senior Citizens Club.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Wilma Meskimen, Herrington, and Mrs. Mavis “Deanie” Fager, Onaga; three sons, Wayne Florence, Onaga, Lyle Florence, Topeka, and Marion Florence, Lincoln; a brother, Clyde Burdette, Onaga; sixteen grandchildren and twenty-one [great] grandchildren.
Funeral services were Saturday, June 5, 1993, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Onaga. Burial was in Onaga Cemetery.
Memorials may be made in favor of the First Baptist Church in Onaga or to the fund of the donor’s choice and left at Tessendorf Mortuary in Onaga.
Mrs. Virginia Force, 72, of Ft. Collins, CO, died Saturday, March 25, 1995, at Poudre Valley hospital in Ft. Collins. She was a former resident of Wichita and Onaga, Kansas and Colorado Springs, CO. She moved to Ft. Collins in 1965.
The daughter of Russell E. and Eva Irene Benjamin Walters, She was born June 20, 1922 at Hutchinson, KS.
Mrs. Force graduated in 1940 from East High School in Wichita and attended Friends University and Wichita University. She was music major.
She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and served as a board member. She was a charter member of the Ft. Collins Women’s Chorus, the Symphony Guild, Friends of the Library, board of the north Good Samaritan, the First Presbyterian Hand Bell Choir, and a member of the Order of Eastern Star. Mrs. Force was a volunteer teacher at Foothills Gateway and a Poudre Valley hospital volunteer.
Mrs. Force was formerly employed as a clerk at pharmacies owned by her father in Wichita and Colorado Springs.
She was married November 25, 1943, to Edwin R. Force in Wichita. He survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Carole Ann Grogan, Hugoton, KS; and Connie Jean Burkholder, Pueblo, CO; a brother, Dr. Richard E. Walters, Springdale, AR; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 28, at Christ United Methodist Church with interment at Resthaven Memory Gardens.
Memorials may be made to Christ United Methodist Church or Ft. Collins Women’s Chorus in care of Allnutt Funeral Service, 301 Drake Road, Ft. Collins.
John Fitzpatrick died at the family home near America City on February 24, 1910, after a short illness. The death of his son, William, was more than the aged father could bear, and within ten days after the death of the son, the father departed from this life at the age of 71 years.
Deceased was born in Ireland and came to this country when a young man, first settling in Missouri and later moving to Kansas where he has since resided. He was married to Cathren Burke in April of 1865. To this union was born six children, only one child, a son, surviving.
Meta Marie Figge, 87, rural Wheaton, died Friday, December 2, 1994, at Onaga Community Hospital.
She was born July 14, 1907, northeast of Wheaton, the daughter of William F. and Helena Hinzman Abitz.
She lived most of her life in the Wheaton and Onaga areas and from 1943 to 1947 near Eskridge.
Mrs. Figge was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church at Wheaton.
She was married to Walter Figge on August 12, 1931, in Duluth. He survives.

Mrs. Figge was preceded in death by a son, Ralin Figge, in June 1937, and a daughter, Genial Teske, in September 1986.
Services were at 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 5, in St. Luke's Lutheran Church at Wheaton. Burial was in St. Luke Lutheran South Cemetery near Wheaton.
Carl F. Figge, 93, Topeka, formerly of Onaga, died Saturday, February 26, 1994, at a Topeka care home.
He was born May 4, 1900, in Onaga, the son of Carl F. and Minnie Hetzler Figge. He worked with a harvesting crew for Norman Hamm’s Construction Co., more than 22 years and traveled from Texas to North Dakota during harvesting season.
Mr. Figge was a member of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church.
He was married to Caroline Marten December 10, 1922. They were divorced. He was married to Alice Jenkins August 27, 1950, in Topeka. She died November 24, 1979.
Survivors include a daughter, Isla Jean Bottom, Havensville; a son, Martin C. Figge, Topeka; a step-son, Morris Jenkins, Cheyenne, WY; a brother, Walter Figge, Wheaton; two sisters, Ella Kafel, Denver, and Adela Honig, Onaga; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Services were at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, at Parker-Price Mortuary, Topeka. Burial was in Rochester Cemetery.
George N. Flinn, 75, St. Marys, died Wednesday, December 22, 1993, at Stormont-Vail Regional Hospital in Topeka.
The younger son of Elsie Marie and Peter Ray Flinn, he was born October 15, 1919, on a farm southwest of Onaga. He attended grammar school in a one-room schoolhouse at Eureka and graduated from Onaga High School with the class of 1937.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in Company A of the 83 rd Armored Reconnaissance of the 3 rd Armored Division, taking part in the Normandy invasion. He was discharged from service on October 17, 1945, with the rank of Sergeant, and returned to the family farm.
He was married July 27, 1952, to Wilma Alberta Clark on the family farm at Laclede.
Mr. Flinn was a farmer and stockman for many years until he retired in 1986 when he and his wife moved to St. Marys.
Mr. Flinn attended the Laclede Baptist Church and later became a member of the St. Marys Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; three daughters, Alberta Hedge of DeSoto, Roberta Rice, Dover and LaNita Milligan, Ponca City, OK; a son, Raymond of Topeka, and 11 grandchildren.
Services were at 10 a.m. Monday, December 27, 1993, in the United Methodist Church in St. Marys. Interment was in Wamego City Cemetery with military graveside rites by the Onaga VFW Memorial Post 7772.
Lorna I. Figge, 86, formerly of Wheaton, died Tuesday, February 13, 1996, at a Westmoreland nursing home.
She was born December 27, 1909, at Duluth, one of 15 children born to Herman and Mathilde Brunkow Teske. She attended St. Paul's Lutheran School at Duluth and was a lifelong resident of the Duluth and Wheaton areas.
Mrs. Figge was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church at Wheaton and the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League.
She married Fred Figge, Jr. on January 24, 1934, at Duluth. He survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Judy Cutright, Rossville; four sons, Fred Figge, Dallas, TX, Myron Figge, Topeka, Dale Figge, Westmoreland, and Lyle Figge, Wamego; a sister, Clara Stiff, Sebastian, FL; a brother, Ralph Teske, Onaga; 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Figge was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Ann Figge.
Services were at 2 p.m. Friday, February 16, at St. Luke's Lutheran Church at Wheaton. Burial was at the church cemetery. Kufahl Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Edwin Ray Force, 74, Hugoton, KS died February 22, 1996.
He was born November 9, 1921, at Wheaton, the son of Ray and Bess Day Force. He was graduated from Onaga High School in 1939 and attended Kansas State University.
Mr. Force was an Army Veteran of World War II>
He married Virginia Eloise Walters November 25, 1943, in Wichita. After the war, the family moved back to Onaga where he farmed and raised Angus cattle. In 1955 the family moved to Colorado Springs where Mr. Force worked as a superintendent for the Peter Kiewit Construction Company and in 1965, after moving to Ft. Collins, CO he was employed as a Public Works Director for Larimer County. He retired in 1984.
After the death of Mrs. Force on March 25, 1995, Mr. Force moved to Hugoton.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Fort Collins, and a third Degree Mason and Past Master of Onaga Lodge #188 AF&AM.
Survivors include two daughters, Carole Grogan, Hugoton, and Connie Burkholder, Pueblo, CO; three grandsons and two granddaughters.
Services were held at 10L00 a.m. Tuesday, February 27, at Allnutt Funeral Chapel in Fort Collins, CO. Burial was in Resthaven Cemetery.
George Francis Force, 87, Chandler, AZ, died Wednesday, April 10, 1996.
Mr. Force was a mail carrier for the U. S. Postal Service for more than 20 years before he retired. He also had done carpentry work and was a Navy Veteran of World War II>
He was born January 16, 1909, at Wheaton, the son of Walter and Myrtle Grice Force. He had lived in Topeka as a young man. He began living in Chandler during the winter months in 1981 and had lived in Chandler year-round since 1991.
Mr. Force was a member of Free and Accepted Masons, and Chandler Presbyterian Church.
He was married to Helen B. Norton on June 4, 1930, at Norton, KS. She survives.
Other Survivors include two daughters, Lois Elliott, Phoenix, AZ and Martha Bartholomew, Dundee, IL; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 14, at the Chandler Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at a Topeka Cemetery at a later date.
Fred W. Figge, Jr., 84, Wheaton, died Tuesday, October 29, 1996, at a Topeka hospital.
Mr. Figge was a farmer and stockman, as well as the Lone Tree Township road maintenance patrolman for 25 years.
He was born July 4, 1912, at Grandin, MO, the son of Fred W. Figge, Sr. and Lulu M. Hale. He moved with his family to the Wheaton community in a covered wagon in 1915.
Mr. Figge was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church at Wheaton.
He was married to Lorna I. Teske on January 24, 1934, at Duluth. She died February 13, 1996. A daughter, Shirley Ann Figge, died in 1942.

Mrs. Florentina Helen Fordham, 78, rural Havensville, died Thursday, November 2, 1995, at her home.
The daughter of Frank and Helen Stephen Zelfer, she was born January 13, 1917, in Potter, KS. She moved to Emmett, Kansas with her parents when she was four years old. She attended Emmett schools and graduated from Emmett High School in 1935.
Mrs. Fordham taught for several years in the St. Clere and Havensville communities. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Emmett.
She was married to Neil C. Fordham on June 1, 1938 at Delia. He died December 4, 1987. She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Veronica, and another daughter, Patricia Helen Fordham.
Survivors include a son, Cecil R.Fordham, Onaga; a daughter, Martha Hofmann, Dodge City; three brothers, Martin Zelfer, Emmett, Frank Zelfer, Goodland, and Fred Zelfer, Scapposse, OR; and five grandchildren.

Reinhold W. Figge, 80, Topeka, DIED Sunday, January 4, 1998, at a Topeka hospital.
He was born February 23, 1917, in Wheaton, the son of Fred and Lulu Hale Figge. He was a carman at the Santa Fe Railway shops 36 years before he retired in July 1977.
He served in the Army four years during World War II.
He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and Philip Baird Post No. 1650 of Veterans of Foreign Wars, both in Topeka, and a 50-year member of Shawnee Lodge No. 887 of the Brotherhood of Railway Carmen.
He was married to Pearl L. Black March 30, 1946, in Wichita. She survives.

Mrs. Sarah Fulton, who with her husband, Warren Fulton, were pioneer residents of this community, passed away at Tecumseh, Kansas, last Saturday at the age of 76 years.
Sarah Elizabeth Cockrell was born January 10, 1857 at Buffalo, Missouri the daughter of George W. and Eliza Cockrell. She came to Kansas in the early sixties with her parents, locating at Onaga, Kansas.
She was married to Warren L. Fulton, at Onaga, Kansas and to this union three children were born, two dying in early infancy. The family resided on a farm southwest of Onaga for many years, moving to Topeka in the year 1908. For the last seven or eight years she has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Minnie Richards at Tecumseh. She is survived by her husband, Warren L. Fulton, and her daughter, Mrs. Richards.
Funeral services were held at the Onaga Cemetery Tuesday morning in charge of the O.E. S. Lodge.
Mrs. Anna E. Force, 86, Topeka, died Wednesday, January 25, at a Topeka hospital following a heart attack.
She was born June 7, 1902 at Havensville, the daughter of William J. and Sadie E. Pitcher McCloughan, and attended Havensville schools.
Mrs. Force had been a cook at Graf’s Café and Hewett Restaurant in Onaga. After she moved to Topeka she was a baker and salad maker for the Senate Cafeteria. She had worked at the Bailey Hotel at Havensville many years ago.
Her first husband, Cecil M. Randall, died in 1978. Her second husband, Ray Force, also preceded her in death. A daughter, Vivian Rose Rice, died in 1978
Survivors include a daughter, Audrey M<axine Blanchard, Manhattan; a sister, Mrs. Stella Teske, Onaga; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services were at 3 p.m. Sunday at Tessendorf Mortuary in Onaga. Burial was in Havensville Cemetery.

He was born January 28, 1883 in Germany and lived in the United States about 76 years. He lived in the Wheaton community many years. He was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church at Wheaton.
Survivors include his wife, the former Lula Hale, to whom he was married September 14, 1909; three daughter, Mrs. Viola Depew, Westmoreland, Mrs. Minnie Teske, Wheaton, and Mrs. Adale Lockhart, Sumner, Washington; three sons, Fred Figge, Jr., Wheaton, Reinhold Figge, Topeka and Carl Figge, St. Marys; 16 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Burial will be in St. Luke's Cemetery south of Wheaton.
Reinhard W. Figge, 67, rural Havensville, died early Wednesday, April 4, 1984, at a Topeka hospital.
Mr. Figge farmed near Effingham until 1979 when he moved to the Havensville community.
He was born December 25, 1916 near Wheaton, the son of William and Margaret Ubel Figge.
He was married to Evelyn Kavan December 15, 1949, at Atchison. She survives.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Stewart Funeral Home at Wamego for Mr. William Figge, 86, of Wamego. Mr. Figge died Friday in a Wamego hospital where he had been a patient for about a week.
He was born November 23, 1884, in Germany. He farmed in the Wheaton community for many years before moving to Wamego in 1948.
He was married to the former Maggie Ubel, who died in 1957. On November 12, 1958 he was married to Genevieve Neel, who survives.
Other survivors are two sons, Reinhard Figge, Effingham, and Floyd Figge, Mobile, Alabama; a daughter, Mrs. Lilly Wrosch, Novato, California; a brother, Fred Figge, Wheaton; eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Hilda, who died in infancy.
Burial was in the Wamego City Cemetery.
Seneca – George E. Fisher, 91, died Saturday November 19, at a Topeka hospital.
Born in Onaga on January 6, 1892, he was the son of Anton and Anna Fisher.
Mr. Fisher was an Army veteran of World War I, having joined the service in 1918. After leaving the service he homesteaded in Colorado and later was a custodian of St. Gregory’s Catholic Church in Marysville for many years.
Surviving are two sisters, Cecelia Becker, Seneca, and Lena McLean, Lakewood, Colorado.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Seneca. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Coal Creek. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at Lauer Funeral Home, Seneca.
Herbert Fischer Dies At Community Hospital – Herbert C. Fischer, 83, Onaga, died Thursday, November 3, at Community Hospital after an illness of several months. He was the last of a family of four sisters and three brothers.
He was born January 16, 1900 near Wheaton, the son of William and Louise Schultz Fischer. He attended country school and the Duluth School.
Mr. Fischer spent most of his life in the Wheaton, Onaga and Havensville communities except for five years when he lived and worked in Topeka. He farmed for many years in the Havensville community before retiring and moving to Onaga.
He was a member of the Lutheran Church at Duluth, and later became a member of the Buck's Grove United Methodist Church southeast of Havensville.
He was married to Lois E. Hoover, November 27, 1930, at Onaga. She survives.
Other survivors include a sister-in-law, Mrs. Viola Fischer, Topeka, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 5, at the Buck's Grove Church with burial in the church cemetery.
Katie Fischer, oldest daughter of Michael and Mary Gunther, was born on a farm near Irving, Kansas on September 24, 1894 and passed away Friday at the age of 73 years, 26 days, at the Onaga Community Hospital after a severe stroke, which ended in death in a few hours.
She was married to Anton Fischer of Onaga on October 21, 1914 and they became the parents of one son, Leonard. Mr. Fischer preceded her in death in July 1942.
She resided on the farm until June 1964 when she bought a home and moved into Onaga.
She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and a member of the Altar Society.
Survivors include her son, Leonard Fischer of the home; three sisters, Mrs. Lena Shields and Miss Barbara Gunther, Onaga, and Mrs. Ed Shields, Havensville; 14 nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives.
Rosary services were held Sunday evening at Tessendorf Mortuary. Funeral services were held Monday morning at St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church at Onaga by the Rev. Francis Drische. Burial was in the family lot at St. Patrick’s Coal Creek Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Henry Lieb, Glen Dulac, Meryl Gaume, Glen Winters, Henry Gilsdorf and Vince Abrams.
Anton Fischer, oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Anton Fischer, was born July 11, 1885 on a farm southwest of Onaga. He departed this life Monday morning, July 20, 1942 at Norton, Kansas at the age of 57 years and 8 days.
He was united in marriage to Katie Gunther, of Bigelow, Kansas on October 21, 1914. To this union was born one son, Leonard, of the home. He lived all of his life on a farm south of Onaga.
Besides his wife and son, he leaves to mourn his death, his mother, of Los Angeles, California; four sisters, Mrs. Ray Becker, of Onaga, Mrs. John Becker of Seneca, Mrs. Lena Hart and Mrs. Mary Ellerman of Denver, Colorado; two brothers, Leo of Boone, Colorado; and George of Denver, Colorado. And a host of relatives, neighbors, and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was never too busy to stop his work and lend a helping hand.
Funeral services were held Friday morning at 10 o’clock at the Onaga Catholic Church, with interment in the Coal Creek cemetery.
Elsie Marie Nicklas Flinn, daughter of Minnie Tessendorf Nicklas and William Nicklas, was born December 28, 1891 in the Laclede community.
Elsie lived her life in the Laclede community. She went to school and finished the 9 th grade. Peter Ray Flinn, from the Arispie neighborhood which was just a few miles from Elsie’s home, became her husband on March 5, 1912 in Onaga, Kansas. She and Pete lived on a farm for 60 years, where they raised two sons, William and George and watched their grandchildren grow up.
Even though Elsie suffered many years of illness, she served God and community in various ways. She loved music and her musical ability enabled her to minister to others. Elsie sang and played the piano at church often. Elsie also enjoyed making quilts.
Elsie was a member of the Laclede Baptist Church, which she joined in 1928. She was a member of the Ladies Aide at the church and she also had been a member of the Jayhawk Club for many years.
Elsie and Pete moved to the Golden Acres Nursing Home in Onaga on December 26, 1973. They celebrated their 64 th Wedding Anniversary there on March 5, 1976. On March 21, 1976 Pete departed from this earth and joined our Heavenly Father.
Elsie moved to the West Cary Home in July 1978. On January 13, 1980, Elsie entered eternal life at the Westmoreland Hospital in Westmoreland, Kansas at the age of 88 years and 16 days.
Elsie is survived by her sons, William and George, a daughter-in-law, Wilma, all of Onaga, Kansas and four grandchildren, Alberta Flinn of Goodland, Kansas; Roberta Flinn Rice of Eskridge, Kansas; LaNita Flinn Milligan of Lincoln, Nebraska and Raymond Flinn of Wamego, Kansas. Also, surviving is one sister, Lillie Gendre of Wamego, Kansas; along with many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Mr. Peter R. Flinn, 87, of Onaga died Sunday at Community Hospital where he was readmitted earlier the same day. He was a resident of Golden Acres Nursing Home for some time.
Mr. Flinn was born February 8, 1889 near Frankfort and had lived in the Laclede and Onaga communities since 1912. He was a retired farmer.
He was a member of the Laclede Baptist Church and the Modern Woodman of America.
He was married to Elsie Nicklas March 5, 1912.
Survivors include his wife of Golden Acres, two sons, William and George Flinn, both of rural Onaga; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, march 24, at the Onaga First Baptist Church. Burial was in Onaga Cemetery.
Fred Francis Flinn, son of George and Martha Flinn, was born June 16, 1885, in Marshal County near Frankfort, Kansas and passed away at Christ hospital in Topeka on January 8 th, 1944 at the age of 58 years, 6 months and 23 days. He was a farmer all of his life until four years ago, when he moved to Onaga.
He was united in marriage to Ella May Burt of Onaga on February 8 th, 1911. To this union three children were born: Orval, now in the army somewhere in the South Pacific, Glen Earl of the army now located in southern California and Viola May Noland of Onaga.
Mr. Flinn joined the Baptist Church when a small boy. For some time he was not able to attend church because of his physical condition. He was a true and faithful husband, a kind and loving father, and a good neighbor to whom he was always willing to lend a helping hand. He was at one time treasurer of the Arispie school district and also treasurer of Sherman Township. He was a member of the Workman Lodge.
He is survived by his wife and three children; one brother, Pete Flinn, of Onaga; two sisters, Mrs. Alma Wright of Onaga and Mrs. Bessie Lee of Westmoreland; a half-brother, Will Flinn, of McCook, Nebraska and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held at the Onaga Baptist Church on Wednesday afternoon and burial was in the Onaga Cemetery.
Oil Transport Goes Into Ditch Two Miles Out Of Miltonvale – “Jack” Florence was instantly killed Monday morning when his kerosene-loaded truck plunged into a 15-foot ditch two miles northeast of Miltonvale. Jack was riding alone, and the wreckage was discovered by Ed Burger, of Concordia, who was enroute to the inauguration ceremonies in Topeka. The cause will probably never be known. Jack drove an oil transport for Raymond Wegner, and was so careful a driver that he had received two safety badges from two corporations for having no accident record in his years of truck driving.
Olen Fern Florence, youngest son of W. A. and Mattie Florence, was born near Waverly, Kansas, October 15, 1913 and passed away near Miltonvale, Kansas, on January 9, 1939, aged 25 years, 2 months and 25 days.
He grew to manhood around Lawrence and Onaga, Kansas, and attended school at Lawrence until his senior year in high school, finishing at Havensville and graduating with the class of 1933. After graduation he was employed by the Union Pacific Railroad for about two years, and since then by the Wegner Transport Line.
He leaves besides his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Florence, three brothers, and two sisters; Clarence, of Onaga, Floyd, of Augusta, Charlotte Berry of Onaga, Edgar of the home, and Edith of Lawrence; three nieces and four nephews, besides a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted by Dr. Thomas C. Hinkle at the Congregational Church, yesterday afternoon. Burial was in the Onaga Cemetery.
Annetta, daughter of J. W. and Amanda Garrett, was born on the old farm near Onaga on march 11, 1872, and departed this life January 26, 1952 at the age of 79 years, 10 months and 15 days. She suffered a stroke on December 6 th and was taken to the Onaga Hospital where she passed away.
She taught school in early life. After the death of her mother in 1912, she and her father moved to Onaga in 1916. Her father died in 1922.
She was married to H. E. Force on December 31, 1924 and lived in Wheaton for a time, moving back to Onaga in the spring of 1927. Her husband passed away in December 1927. Her brother, George, came to live with her in 1928. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and four sisters.
Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Vera Witham and Mrs. Doris Talbott, and one brother, George Garrett, and a number of nieces and nephews. She joined the First Baptist church a number of years ago and at the time of her death was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2:30 at the Tessendorf Chapel, conducted by Rev. Nelson, with burial in the Regar Cemetery.
Basil F. “Dry” Florence, 85, of Onaga, Kansas died at Community Hospital in Onaga November 4, where he had been a patient for sixteen days.
He was born in the Olivet, Kansas community south of Topeka, august 15, 1902, a son of William and Mattie Strahan Florence. He was a brakeman for Union Pacific Railroad for forty years, retiring in August of 1967. He was a member of the Union Pacific Old Timer’s Club, a charter member of the Onaga Senior Citizen’s Club and a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Duluth, Kansas.
He was married to Gladys Ristow of Onaga at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Topeka January 6, 1949. She survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Vickie Holder, Longmont, Colorado, three granddaughters, one grandson, and three great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Mrs. Edith Swickard, Mission, Kansas.
Funeral services were at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Duluth Saturday, November 7, at 10:30 a.m. Interment was in Onaga Cemetery.
William J. Flaherty, 69, Onaga, died Sunday, September 29, 1985 at an Onaga hospital.
He was a retired farmer and stockman.
Mr. Flaherty was born March 13, 1916, at Corning, the son of John and Catherine Grothjan Flaherty. He was an Army veteran of World War II, and was discharged as a sergeant after five years’ service. He spent many years in the Corning and Havensville communities.
He was a member of Arthur L. Mills Post No. 37 of the American Legion at Corning.
Survivors include a brother, Everett Flaherty, Havensville and two sisters, Anne Flaherty and Mary C. Flaherty, both of Kansas City, Missouri.
Mass of Christian Burial was at ten o’clock Wednesday, October 2, 1985 at St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church at Onaga. Burial will full military honors was in Coal Creek Cemetery northeast of Onaga. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or toward upkeep of Coal Creek Cemetery.
Clarence F. “Slim” Florence, 85, Onaga, died Tuesday, September 10, 1985 at an Onaga hospital.
Mr. Florence had worked for Union Pacific Railroad more than 39 years before he retired in 1965. He later was a Rawleigh Products salesman. He was an Army veteran of World War I.
He was born December 25, 1899 at Williamsburg, the son of William A. and Mattie Strahan Florence. He attended Center Valley Grade School near Waverly and was graduated from Vermillion High School.
Mr. Florence was a member of Onaga Lodge No. 188, AF&AM, and Onaga Post No. 85 of the American Legion both at Onaga. He was a life member of the Union Pacific Old Timer’s Club at Marysville.
He was married to Tressie Burdette of Havensville April 3, 1929 at Holton. She survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Wilma Meskimen, Herrington and Mrs. Mavis “Deanie” Fager, Onaga; three sons, Wayne Florence, Onaga; Lyle Florence, Topeka and Marion Florence, Lincoln; a sister, Mrs. Edith Swichard, Mission; a brother, B. F. “Dry” Florence, Onaga; 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services were at 10:30 Thursday morning, September 12, at the First Baptist Church in Onaga. Graveside services were conducted by Onaga Lodge No. 188, AF&AM, in Onaga Cemetery. Tessendorf Mortuary of Onaga was in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Onaga Senior Center or Onaga Community Hospital.
Dr. Charles S. Fleckenstein, 78, Onaga, died Wednesday, March 5, at a Kansas City, Missouri hospital.
Dr. Fleckenstein spent his professional life at Onaga. He retired in 1978.
He was born June 21, 1907, at Traer, in Decatur County, the son of August and Lenora Smith Fleckenstein. He was graduated from the University of Kansas School of Medicine at Kansas City, Kansas in 1936.
Dr. Fleckenstein was a member of the Congregational Church in Onaga, Onaga Lodge No. 188 AF&AM, Arab Shrine at Topeka, and the American Medical Association.
He was married to Martha Leitner April 26, 1930, at Norton. She survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Jean Templin, Stillwell, and Mrs. Dorothy Prugh, Sierra Vista, Arizona; a sister, Mrs. Dorothy Sutton, Gothenburg, Nebraska; five brothers, Loren Fleckenstein, Nacagdoches, Texas, Harold Fleckenstein, Hays, August Fleckenstein, Marthasville, Miss, Myron Fleckenstein, Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, and Dr. Dale Fleckenstein, Colby; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Congregational Church here. Burial will be in Onaga Cemetery. Dr. Fleckenstein will lie in state after noon today until 9 p.m. Friday at Tessendorf Mortuary in Onaga and an hour before service time at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
George R. Forst, Sr., Blaine, Kansas, passed away Saturday, May 11, 1985, at the Onaga Hospital, Onaga, Kansas. He was eighty years old.
George was born on August 8, 1904, at Irving, Kansas, the son of Frank and Mary Novak Forst.
He was married to Lenora Manges, May 28, 1928, at Frankfort, Kansas.
He was a farmer and lived in the Blaine community for the past fifty years.
He was a member of St. Columbkille’s Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council No. 2278, both of Blaine, Kansas.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lenora, on February 21, 1981; a son, Gilbert, and a sister, Adela Morris.
He is survived by four sons, George Forst, Jr., Topeka, Kansas, David Forst, Wamego, Kansas; Jim Forst, Marysville, Kansas; and Ted Forst, Frankfort, Kansas; thirteen grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters, Mrs. Helen Lynch and Mrs. Mary Ann Cornelius, both of Topeka, Kansas, and Mrs. Ann Budenbender, Frankfort, Kansas; and two brothers, Joe Forst, Blaine, Kansas; and Vincent Forst, Seneca, Kansas.
Funeral service was held Monday, May 13, 1985, at St. Columbkille’s Church, Blaine, Kansas, with Reverend Phil Winkelbauer, officiating.
Mass servers were Tim Manges and grandsons Jerry and Paul Forst. Offertory gift bearers were granddaughters, Jan, Patti and Pam Forst.
Serving as pallbearers were Ed Murray, Pat O’Shea, Frances Wapp and grandsons, Kenneth, Tim and Richard Forst.
Burial was in the Mount Calvary Cemetery, Frankfort, Kansas.
Frank G. Force, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert E. Force, passed away Thursday morning, May 23, 1957, at the age of 68 years, 2 months, 29 days.
He lived his entire life in this community. He was united in marriage to Iva Ruth Day February 8, 1917.
Mr. Force was a member of the Wheaton Congregational Church, the Community Hospital Board, the Masonic Lodge, the Order of Eastern Star, all in Onaga, and the Scottish Rite, and the Shrine of Topeka.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Iva Force, one son, Roger of Wheaton, a daughter, Mrs. Marjorie Keating of Lecompton; a daughter-in-law, Joy Force; a son-in-law, Harold Keating; five grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Ruth Bushey, St. Marys; Mrs. Esther Henneberg, Wheaton, and Mrs. Lulu McCarty, Oneida, Kansas; one brother, Lloyd Force, Quivira Lake, Kansas, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held in the Congregational Church of Wheaton under the direction of the Kufahl Funeral Home, with the Reverend Millard Marshall. Mr. Arthur Northup of Wamego sang and was accompanied by Mrs. Ed Fitzgerald of Beattie.
Burial was in the Wheaton Cemetery with graveside services in charge of the Masons.
Services were at 10 a.m. Monday, December 7, at Verschelden Funeral Home in St. Marys for Neil C. Fordham, 75, Havensville. He died Friday, December 4, 1987, in Onaga Community Hospital.
He was born February 10, 1912, in Havensville, the son of Ephraim and Birdie McLin Fordham and was a life-long resident of the Havensville community.
Mr. Fordham was a farmer. He was on the board of the Cross Creek Watershed District and was a trustee in Lincoln Township in Pottawatomie County.
He was married to Florentina Zelfer in 1938 at Delia. She survives. A daughter, Mary Veronica Fordham, preceded him in death. Another daughter, Patricia Fordham, died July 2, 1971.
Other survivors include a son, Cecil Fordham, Havensville; a daughter, Martha Hofmann, Dodge City; three brothers, David Fordham, Darrell Fordham and Marvin Fordham, all of Havensville; and five grandchildren.
Burial was in Mount Calvary Cemetery in St. Marys.
Onaga – Mrs. Alice Erma Brownfield Fuhrman, 85, Onaga, died Monday, September 28, 1987, at an Onaga hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Tessendorf Mortuary in Onaga. Burial will be in Vienna Cemetery southeast of Onaga. Mrs. Fuhrman will lie in state until 2 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary. Memorial contributions my be made to Golden Acres Nursing Home at Onaga.

Mrs. Alice Erma Brownfield Fuhrman, 85, Onaga, died Monday, September 28, 1987, at Community Hospital in Onaga.

Edgar “Gump” Florence, 70, of Nahcotta, Washington, died at his home Sunday evening. He had a heart attack. He was a former resident of this community and a brother of Mrs. Edith Swickard of Mission, C. F. Florence, B. F. Florence and Mrs. Carl A. Schwarz.
Elsie N. Frezieres, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Herman Tessendorf, was born on a farm west of Onaga August 6, 1890, and passed away at Community Hospital in Onaga, November 21, 1964.
At the age of 13, she, with the family, moved to Onaga, Kansas. She became a member of the First Baptist Church of Onaga at an early age and was a faithful attendant all her life.
She was married to Ernest L. Frezieres, November 3, 1909. To this union two children were born: Chester L. Frezieres of Orlando, Florida and Amelia (Mrs. John Rhoads) of Wichita, Kansas. She also leaves five grandchildren; Two sisters, Ida Brunkow of Topeka and Celia Wrosch of Onaga; three brothers, Johnnie and Zabel Tessendorf, both of California, and Mitchell Tessendorf of Onaga.
Funeral services for Mr. Ed Fischer, 84, of Wheaton, were at two o’clock Tuesday afternoon at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Duluth. Burial was in Home Cemetery.
Mr. Fischer passed away Saturday at Community Hospital here. He had been in the hospital for several weeks.
He was born June 1, 1881 near Wheaton, the son of William and Louise Fischer. He spent most of his life in the Wheaton community.
Survivors include two brothers, Herman Fischer, Wheaton, and Herbert Fischer, Havensville; and four sisters, Emma Fischer, Mrs. Mrs. Hattie Berg and Mrs. Amelia Bosse all of Wheaton and Mrs. Pauline Berg of Blaine.
Arlone Harvey Florence Dies In Wichita Tuesday – Arlone Florence, 19, passed away at the St. Francis hospital in Wichita, on Tuesday, august 15 th, at 3:40 p.m. after giving birth to a baby daughter, Vickey Fern. The baby is still living.
Mrs. Florence, the wife of Basil “Dry” Florence, was born May 16, 1920. Her marriage to Basil F. Florence, occurred September 30, 1938 at Newkirk, Oklahoma. The funeral services were held on Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Dunsford Chapel at Augusta, Kansas, Augusta being the former home of Mrs. Florence. Rev. Ray Baker of Beloit read the services. Interment was made in Elmwood cemetery.
In addition to her infant daughter and husband, she is survived by her mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. Victor Bathel, her father, Fred C. Harvey, of Kansas City, her grandparents and a host of friends and other relatives.
William Taylor Flowers was born near Havensville, Kansas, on October 12, 1897, to Francis Marion and Rosa Della Flowers. He passed away at his home in Havensville on July 12, 1966, at the age of 68 years and nine months.
He was united in marriage to Florence May Rawlings on January 19, 1921. To this union were born three sons, Maynard, who died in infancy, Sheldon Ray and Lloyd Calvin.
He was educated in the Havensville schools, leaving directly from his senior year of high school for volunteer service in the Armed Services during World War I. He served 21 months in the Coastal Artillery, including overseas service.
As a young man, he worked for a while for the area railroads before accepting the principalship of the Havensville Grade School. He was appointed Postmaster at Havensville in February 1926. After 17 years in this capacity, he transferred to rural route carrier. He retired from the postal service in October 1958, with 32 years and seven months of continuous service.
He was deeply interested in organizations and civic activities of the Havensville community. He was a member of, and held offices in the American Legion, Modern Woodmen, and Rural Letter Carriers Association.
From the beginning to the end, his devotion was to his family and his church. To his family he was strength and inspiration. He was gentle. He was kind. He was understanding. His grandchildren, in particular, were a constant personal delight to him; and, in turn, his grandchildren loved him in such a way that it could be fully understood only by themselves and their grandparents. For always, he evidenced that his great joy in his family was founded and maintained through the unalterable mutual devotion which bonded himself and his beloved wife, his ever-present companion and partner in the home.
He presented his life to God at an early age. He was baptized at the Havensville Christian Church in his youth and remained ac active member all the rest of his life. For years he served as Sunday school teacher and superintendent until failing health caused him to limit such activity. He has served well in various offices of the Christian Church and was an Elder at the time he passed away.
Preceding him in death were his parents; one infant brother and one baby sister; a brother, Albert; and a son, Maynard. He is survived by his wife, May; his sons, Sheldon and Lloyd; two sisters, Mrs. Bertha Pitcher and Mrs. Garnet Livergood; six grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. July 15 at the Christian Church in Havensville with interment in the Havensville cemetery.
Bessie E. Day, daughter of Hamilton and Sara Day was born May 6, 1888 at Westmoreland, Kansas, and passed away at her home in Onaga, April 30, after a long and lingering illness.
On April 27, 1910 she was united in marriage with Ray Force of Wheaton. She is survived by her husband and two sons, Galen D. Force of Pasadena, California, and Edwin Ray Force of Wichita. Also four sisters and one brother: Mrs. Allie Hollister of Wabaunsee, Mrs. Mary Andrick of Atchison, Mrs. Jessie Yewell of Topeka, Mrs. Iva Forse, of Wheaton, and frank R. Day of Westmoreland; also many other relatives and friends who deeply mourn her passing.
She was a member of the Wheaton Congregational Church, the Order of Eastern Star, and the Royal Neighbors of America, to all of which she was a loyal and faithful member al long as her health permitted.
On Sunday, May 2 nd, after a brief service at the home, a large group of friends followed the remains to the church at Wheaton to find it already comfortably filled with other friends, so that the attendance there was an overflow house. The wonderfully beautiful floral tribute and the large attendance at the funeral were eloquent testimony to the high favor in which she was held. The funeral service was conducted by the pastor, Rev. W. A. Lower and the music was furnished by Mr. Harold Phillips and Mrs. Fern Dodds, with Mrs. Helen Miller at the piano. Interment was made in the cemetery south of Wheaton.
A good woman has gone from us, but she being dead yet speaks.
Joseph Sherman Fulton, son of Lewis R. and Rosetta Josaphine Fulton, was born October 13, 1865 in Illinois, and passed away in Topeka, Kansas on March 9, 1944 at the age of 78 years, 4 months and 27 days.
He was united in marriage on May 24, 1888 to Dora Ingalsbe, who preceded him in death on April 18 th, 1930.
Mr. Fulton came to this state with his parents when he was 3 years old, and had lived in this community ever since, until a few months ago. He is survived by one brother, Jess Fulton, of Holton and several nephews and nieces.
Burial was in the Onaga cemetery on Saturday afternoon, with Rev. W. A. Lower in charge of the service.
Guy B. Force, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Force, was born October 1, 1881, on what is known as the Will Linderman farm, north east of Wheaton, and died October 21, 1934, aged 53 years and 7 days.
He grew to manhood in this vicinity. While yet in his teens he took up the occupation of railroading. His sunny disposition when a youth gave him the nickname of “Happy” which followed him through life. In 1914 he was married to Mary E. Harrison, after which they moved to Kansas City, Missouri. They remained there until 1931 when his health failed and he could not continue his railroad work. In May 1931 they moved back to Wheaton where they have since resided.
On June 26, 1934 he was baptized in the Catholic Religion by the Rev. G. F. Hart and died fortified by the last sacraments of his new found faith.
The funeral was held at St. Michael’s church, Monday morning in the presence of a host of life long friends that filled the church to its capacity. Burial was in the family lot in St. Michael’s cemetery. He leaves to mourn, his wife, and a host of friends and relatives.
Ray Force, son of Herbert E. and Ellen Force, was born May 1, 1887 near Wheaton, Kansas and passed away very suddenly at Onaga, Kansas on October 5, 1950 at the age of 63 years, 5 months and 4 days. He lived his entire life in the vicinities of Wheaton and Onaga.
On May 27, 1910 he was united in marriage to Besse E. Day, who preceded him in death on April 30, 1943. To this union were born two sons, Galen D. of Washington, D. C. and Edwin Ray, of Onaga.
On July 28, 1950 he was married to Mrs. Anna Randall, of Onaga, who, with the sons and their families survive him. The five little granddaughters were a great pleasure and comfort to him.
He is also survived by three sisters and two brother: Mrs. Ruth Bushey of St. Marys, Mrs. Esther Henneberg of Wheaton, Mrs. Lula McCarty of Oneida, Frank G., of Wheaton, and Lloyd W. of Kansas City, Missouri; also many other relatives and friends who will long remember his kind and friendly manner. Always known as a very industrious man, he passed on to his reward while performing his daily task.
He united with the Congregational Church at Wheaton on April 1, 1923. He is a member of the Masonic Lodge of Onaga.
Funeral services were conducted on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock, at the Congregational Church in Wheaton in charge of Rev. Roten. Burial was in the Wheaton cemetery. Burial services were in charge of the Masonic Lodge.
Chester L. Frezieres, of 2542 Ronsan Avenue, Orlando, Florida, passed away Monday, October 26, 1987. He was born August 16, 1910 in Onaga, the son of Ernest and Elsie Tessendorf Frezieres. Survivors include his wife, Mabel Keal Frezieres; two daughters, Sonja Barringer and Donna Morgan; five grandchildren, and a sister, Amelia Rhoads of Douglas, KS.
Funeral services are pending.
Funeral services for Bert O. Frezieres of Chula Vista, California were held September 8 in Brush, Colorado.
Mr. Frezieres, 76, died September 4 in Chula Vista, after a lengthy illness. He was born January 3, 1906 in Onaga.
He married the former Leona Armet on September 20, 1934 in Pueblo, Colorado. She survives
He was a member of the Brush City Council from 1956 to 1958 and served as mayor of Brush for two years.
Mr. Frezieres was an honorary member of Brush Rotary Club and the Masonic Loge. He was a veteran of World War II and was a former president of the Colorado Funeral Directors Association and the Brush Civic Club.
Ernest L. Frezieres, 86, of Onaga, died July 30 at Community Hospital here. He was born November 11, 1887 in the Neuchatel community where he spent his childhood.
In his early teens, for health reasons, he was sent to Chihuahua, Old Mexico to live with his aunt and uncle and while there learned his mechanical trade.
He returned to Onaga after several years and was married to Elsie Tessendorf on November 3, 1909. She preceded him in death November 21, 1964.
Mr. Frezieres was instrumental in establishing the first light and power company in Onaga and he wired many of the older homes. In his later years, he owned and operated machine shops and service stations in Onaga and Havensville. He retired from business about ten years ago and for the past three years resided at Golden Acres Nursing Home in Onaga.
He was a member of the Onaga I.O.O.F. Lodge No. 234.
Surviving are a son, Chester L. Frezieres, Orlando, Florida; a daughter, Mrs. Amelia Rhoads, Wichita; two brothers, Bert Frezieres and Grant Frezieres, both of California; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. today, (Thursday) at the First Baptist Church in Onaga. Interment will be in Onaga Cemetery.
Mrs. Lenora Smith Fleckenstein, 83, of McCook Nebraska, mother of Dr. Charles Fleckenstein, died Wednesday, July 14, at Community Hospital here. She had undergone surgery on June 28 at a Topeka hospital and was transferred to the hospital here about a week before her death.
She was born October 12, 1888 at Fairfield, Nebraska. She was married to August Fleckenstein at Herndon, Kansas and they lived for a time at Atwood, Kansas where Mr. Fleckenstein owned and operated a drug store. Later Mr. Fleckenstein completed medical school at Kansas City and he and his family moved to Herndon where Dr. Fleckenstein set up his practice and they reared their family. Following her husband’s death in 1948, Mrs. Fleckenstein moved to McCook where she has since made her home.
Besides the son here, she is survived by five other sons, Loren Fleckenstein of Atwood, Harold Fleckenstein of Hays, August Fleckenstein of Marthasville, Missouri, Myron Fleck of Chicago, Illinois, and Dr. Donald Fleckenstein of Colby; a daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Sutton of Gothenburg, Nebraska; ****************graveside services and burial were at the Evangelical Cemetery at Herndon.
Hannah Margaret Troughton was born in Memphis, Tennessee, on August 22 nd, 1868. When she was three years old her parents moved to Kansas, and there she grew to womanhood.
In March of 1[8]83 she was united in marriage to Horace H. Frager, of Wetmore, Kansas. The first few years of her married life were spent in Texas, later returning to Kansas, where she has made her home since.
She was a member of the Eastern Star and at an early time in her life united with the Christian Church. She has not recently lived in a community which supported a Christian Church, so has given her faithful attendance and support to the Congregational Churches where she has resided.
Hannah passed away at the home of her daughter in Onaga, the morning of March 1 st 1934, after a lingering and painful sickness of several weeks duration. All the while she has been confined to her bed she has been jolly, patient and cheerful. She is survived by her daugher, Mildred Dunn, of Onaga, and her son, E. Raymond, of Topeka, a sister and a brother, of Seneca, and other relatives.
Her life was one of sacrifice and labor for others and she will always be remembered as a loving mother and a true friend. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the Roderick Funeral Home in Wetmore, Kansas, conducted by Rev. Chas. Reihards, of Seneca. Interment was in the Wetmore cemetery.
