Mr. Baker was engaged in the furniture business in this city for perhaps twenty-five years, coming here when the town was young. He was always a generous, big-hearted man, and was ever ready to assist in any worthy public enterprise. It caused him much sorrow, when about four and a half years ago his son was obliged to leave this country on account of his health and move to Colorado, and last May he disposed of his business interests here and moved to that state, that he might engage in business with, and be near him. He bought property in Pueblo, and was in every way prepared to enjoy life for a number of years, had it not been for that dread Brights disease, of which he was a victim. In September his health began failing rapidly, and his physicians informed him that there was nothing they could do to prolong his life beyond a few months. Mr. Baker was converted about a year ago, and it was a great comfort to his family to know that he was ready for the change, which they realized so soon awaited him. The body, accompanied by his wife, and son, Frank Baker and wife of Pueblo, a sister and nephew of Oklahoma, and J., W. Dunn, who met them in Topeka, arriving here Wednesday, and was taken to the Dunn home. Funeral services were held Thursday morning from the Congregational Church, conducted by Rev. Marcy. The 23 rd Psalm, which had been a real comfort to Mr. Baker during his illness was read, and Rev. Marcy took for his theme, “the Light cometh at eventide,” and drew therefrom a beautiful lesson. There were many lovely floral offerings from friends here and in Pueblo, and from the following lodges of which he was a member: Mo. 188 A. F. and A. M., the Onaga Chapter of O.E. S., and Onaga camp M. W. A. The body was laid to rest in the Onaga Cemetery, the Masons having charge of the services at the grave.
