Ray Ollis joined the R.A.A.F. on his eighteenth
birthday, served for three and a half years with the R.A.A.F., R.C.A.F. and
R.A.F., and was awarded the D.F.C. After the war he wrote regularly for the
Australian Broadcasting Commission and subsequently for commercial radio. His
training in this field is no doubt responsible for the pungent prose in which
his novel is written. His own experiences in the air with 101 Squadron are
guarantee enough of its authenticity. |
