AVERY COUNTY WORLD WAR I OFFICERS
Bailiff, Roy ...... Captain
Coffey, Ora C..........Captain
Dugger, Clarence .First Lieutenant
Hall, Osborn Second Lieutenant
The above named men left the enlisted ranks to accept commissions. The North Carolina
files in the Adjutant General's office, Raleigh, contain the names of two other officers
from Avery County but these were not searched by the person who volunteered to do the
work.
Horton Cooper, an enlisted man, after attending an officer's training school, earned a
second lieutenant's commission, but because of the Armistice the commission was not
issued.
