The following information is provided by Sidney Chamberlin. She found the data in the Seattle, Washington Archives.

A partial translation of the affidavit that was attached to the Boston Ollis, Revolutionary War Pension:

haven't read through the whole thing but on the last page is an affidavit sworn to by a James McDaniel and I will quote "...was in Charleston in the fall season in the year of 1779 and while he was there he became acquainted with a certain Boston Ollis a German Dutchman. Who belonged to the artillery service of the united States affiant States that he does not know how long said Ollis had been in the artillery service of the united States. Nor when he was discharged from the same but he well recollects said Ollis talking of the artillery line and Why the said affiant retains the said Ollis in his memory is on account of said Olliss singular manners and broken language---affiant believes that said Ollis as aforesaid to be the same Boston Ollis who is now making application for pension."

It would seem to me that this affidavit would be a definitive answer to the question of Boston being German. It still seems possible to me that there might be truth to the Welsh connection as well due to England's involvement with Germany in wars against France. The Ollis sojurn in Germany might only have lasted a matter of decades. It will be interesting to see how this all comes out and I am hopeful that we will find some answers.
